This is a true story!

Our pig Ellie Mae had not been doing well for some time. We tried all sorts of things to help her. Erica and I decided we didn’t want her to suffer anymore and we talked about a time that felt right to end her suffering. Just the two of us in the kitchen, we said let’s wait until after the first week of camp so we can be there for the other animals (we know pigs are smart animals and weren’t sure how the other pigs would handle losing her). NO JOKE THE VERY NEXT DAY… someone reached out and asked if we could help this guy… we would like to introduce you to Gus… Gus is a 5 year old pig who’s owners were not able to keep him on their property after their township made some changes to their policies regarding animals in a residential development. Gus is a big boy (bigger than Norman) but an absolute SWEETHEART! We will be sharing more about him in the coming days.

We don’t know how it happens but it always seems to workout that when we lose an animal, another one needs our support.

🥬 Lettuce needed for our pigs! 🐷 🐷

During the school year, we are blessed to have a group of generous ladies who save lettuce for our pigs. The pigs enjoy large salads every day, along with a small amount of pig food for the vitamins and minerals, which help keep them healthy and maintain an appropriate weight.

When summer arrives, that steady supply of lettuce disappears, and we’re looking for a little help from our community.

If you have a little extra lettuce from your garden, produce you won’t be able to use, or know of a local source that might be willing to donate, we’d be incredibly grateful.

Donations can be dropped off at the farm. Every head of lettuce helps!

This is a tough one… Our girl Ellie Mae crossed the rainbow bridge today. If you’ve visited the farm in the past year we have told you about Ellie Mae and her painful arthritis. Her symptoms started in the fall of 2024 with a slight limp. We had her checked by the veterinarian and they told us how to help manage her pain and hopefully get her moving around better. Erica did research and got her on a treatment plan with pain meds, turmeric, h**p drops and more. Unfortunately her arthritis got to the point where she couldn’t walk on all fours and we made the decision to have her euthanized. We were with her until the very end and gave her all the love and support we possibly could.

At Holly Harvest Farm our mission is to give the animal residents the best lives that we possibly can. They all mean so much to us and we thank you all for your love and support.

Holly Harvest Farm Camp #1 of 2026 is in the books! We had PERFECT weather and an amazing time. The group did such a great job interacting with the animals, helping each other and learning about what goes into having a farm!

Farm Camp is our largest fundraiser of the year! It helps the more than 40 animal residents that have been either rescued or rehomed to Holly Harvest Farm. $0.00 goes to Mike and Erica because that is NOT why we do this. We do this for the animals. THANK YOU for your support!
