Muggle Magic Minerva Mcgonagall (Barn name “Minnie”) had one quite large doeling early this morning after a tumultuous week! Meet Muggle Magic JellyBean (barn name “Bean”) Mom and kid are doing well. Minnie was bred to Bit of Mischief Denali, a beautiful gold and white buck with blue eyes. As you can see, she got her daddy’s eyes and mommas coloring! Jazzy is due next, mid April! Did you know that rabbits have a remarkably short gestation period of 31-33 days, whereas our dwarf goats have a gestation period of approximately 145 days? The parturition process in goats is referred to as kidding, typically resulting in 2-3 offspring. In rabbits, the process is called kindling, often yielding 5-8 kits, although larger litters are possible. Notably, rabbits have only six ni***es, which can lead to challenges in larger litters, potentially resulting in kit mortality or smaller-sized kits. Goats have two teats, having potentially the same issues of keeping up with any more than 3 kids.

Similar to goats, female rabbits are referred to as does and males as bucks. Our rabbit kindling schedule is set to commence on February 7th, with the resulting kits intended for the Oakfield Alabama Future Farmers of America program. The participating girls will showcase and auction these rabbits at the Genesee County Fair as part of their Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE) with Genesee County 4-H.
