🌿 The garden is finally hitting its stride, and the harvest basket is starting to fill! 🧺💚
There's something so rewarding about walking out to the garden and coming back with fresh food for the table. Today brought us zucchini, basil, okra, green beans, our first green bell pepper, the cutest little ornamental gourds, and our very first pumpkin of the season! 🎃
Watching that little pumpkin grow from a tiny blossom into something almost as big as our little helper has been such a fun reminder of what a little patience, sunshine, and care can produce. Moments like these are what make all the watering, weeding, and waiting worthwhile.
Homesteading isn't about perfection—it's about celebrating every harvest, every lesson, and every little milestone along the way. 🌱
Here's to fresh meals, tiny hands helping in the garden, and the simple joy of growing our own food. ❤️

Who says ricotta is only for savory dishes? 🤍🍯
This ricotta cookie bowl is proof that one simple ingredient can make an incredible dessert. Topped with a drizzle of honey and crushed pistachios, it's soft, creamy, lightly sweet, and full of flavor.
Ricotta is one of my favorite ingredients because it's so versatile. While it's commonly used in lasagna and stuffed shells, it also shines in desserts. Its mild flavor and creamy texture make it perfect for cheesecakes, cookies, cakes, cannoli filling, whipped desserts, and simple sweet treats like this one.
Sometimes the best desserts don't have to be complicated—just a few quality ingredients coming together to create something delicious.

Autumn Olive: A berry with a story. ❤️🌿
Despite its name, the autumn olive isn't actually related to olive trees. Originally introduced to North America for erosion control and wildlife habitat, it has since spread aggressively and is considered invasive in many areas.
But one silver lining? Its berries are edible and incredibly nutritious. They're naturally high in vitamin C, fiber, and lycopene—an antioxidant that's also found in tomatoes. In fact, autumn olive berries can contain significantly more lycopene than fresh tomatoes.
Their flavor is a balance of sweet and tart, especially after the first frost, making them perfect for jams, jellies, syrups, fruit leather, and even wine.
While the shrubs can outcompete native plants if left unmanaged, harvesting the berries is a great way to enjoy one of nature's unexpected gifts while helping reduce seed spread.

The hidden beauty of the garden. 💛🌿
Before every okra pod comes one of the prettiest flowers in the garden. These delicate, buttery-yellow blooms only last for a short time, but they play an important role. Once pollinated by our hardworking bees, the flower fades and an okra pod begins to grow in its place.
It's a simple reminder that some of the most beautiful things in the garden are also the beginning of something even better. 🌼🐝
Nature never ceases to amaze me.
