So, yesterday, we started something new in our house. Brandy had the idea to start a game that tracks negativity. We keep track of times we get upset/angry, frustrated, annoyed. At the end of the day we see who handled themselves well.
Originally, we were going to give the winner something special everyday, but decided that may not be best. Instead, we’re going to do something on a weekly basis to celebrate everyone’s wins. Instead of competing against each other, we’re competing against our previous day.
It’s no surprise to me that I had the highest score yesterday (it records like golf, the lowest score, the better). But what was a surprise was the fact that my score was still so low. And further, our 3 year old who wasn’t even involved in the game, didn’t record a single meltdown until he went to bed after bedtime.
Your attitude affects your world around you.
Today, we’re adding a second element to our scoring. You can lower your overall score by using eq skills when you’re experiencing negative emotions (deep breaths, counts, talking through it).
I challenge you to keep track of your negativity (if that’s even something you struggle with) and see how you progress throughout the week. I’m betting relationships in your home or work place will begin to change for the positive!
