Pigs love sorgrum Sudan grass. Started feeding it to the pigs tonight. The sorgrum Sudan grass is baled at about 65% moisture and wrapped to ferment. This is then fed to the cattle and pigs over the winter. #feed #sorgrumsudangrass #pork #beef #bringthepasturetothepigs #grasseveninwinter #pasturepork #meatquality #makeourownfeed #meatraisedright
We don't buy feed for our hogs. We grow it. It's planted, harvested and ground for feed by us. This is done to provide our pigs with the best feed possible but also so we know exactly what is fed to our animals. In order to get the feed rations exact we use scales. This way we can get the hog rations exact. #goodfeedequalshappyhogs #artsway #gmofreecorn #gmofreefeed #meatquality
Just keeping the pigs fed with gmo free feed. In case you are new to following us we grow our own feed for the pigs as well as grind our own feed rations for them. Each ration is a little different to ensure that particular group of pigs gets exactly what they need. #gmofreecorn #gmofree #pigfeed #growourownfeed #7daysaweek
First for us. Planting triticale Into sorgrum Sudan grass that was killed by the frost. We are trying this to utilize our ground to the best of our ability. The sorghum Sudan was no till planted back in June July and now we are no tilling in the triticale. This will be spring feed for our livestock. #notill #esch #johndeere #triticale #tryingnewthings #feedforouranimals #growourfeed
Bringing the cows home. We bring our main herd down everyday in the fall to separate off the steers that were grazing all summer. After all the animals are sorted off just the momma cows will return to this pasture and go on winter grazing. We do this to give the momma cows a break before 2021 calving starts. They deserve some time to themselves. #pastureraised #bringingthecowshome #beefitswhatsfordinner #meatraisedright #sorryforwhatisaidsortingcows #metimeforthemommacows
The best thing for mixing feed. A scale. When mixing our hog feeds we can add different ingredients and know exactly how much we are adding of each. It really makes a difference with keeping our rations balanced. #exactrations #pigfeed #gmofreecorn #gmofree #goodmeat #scales #artsway
Since the pasture is about gone for the year I have started feeding silage bales to the pigs. This is a bale of triticale. We feed this when the grass in the pasture is in dormancy. That way our pigs get to forage all year long. #silagebales #pigslovesilage #bringthepasturetothepigs #grass #pigs #happypigs
Mowing what's left of the sorghum Sudan grass this week. Give it a little time to dry then I'll roll it up and wrap it. Makes great feed. #beefgottaeat #sorgrumsudangrass #jd4995 #greatstuff #beefitswhatsfordinner
