A couple years ago, I was attending an Esther Beauty event/retreat, and our beautiful, wise Kiki was talking about how, as Christians, we are all parts of one body, + we can look at that in more ways than one. We all work together to function, with no one part of the body being more important than the other, but each having a special, individual role that serves a greater purpose. She went into talking about how God had placed it on her heart that spiritually, she was the skin + explained what that meant to her. This convo really resonated with me + I’ve went back to it in my mind many times throughout the years, wondering what part of the body God called me to be, yet I consistently, from my very first time hearing this, came back to “the stomach.”
Initially, my first thought was the stomach is kinda gross. 🤣 Perhaps a cuter organ? Truthfully, I didn’t put a whole lot of thought into what the stomach meant in depth. As the product of a very southern, very cajun, south Louisianian family, with a grandmother who ALWAYS had a warm meal waiting on you, I very often come back to what I know + what has always rang true throughout my life…food = love. That was my association + I left it there. But last night I was doing some bible studying + something in my devotional brought my ADHD brain back to “why does God think I’m the dang stomach, + what does that mean about me?” sooo naturally I dug into scripture + the more I thought about it, the more beautiful “the stomach” became.
The stomach receives. It takes in what it’s given, breaks it down, processes it, + turns it into nourishment that the rest of the body can use. I pray that I’m someone who takes the things God gives me- wisdom, joy, discernment, grief, loss, experiences, lessons, both the really beautiful + the really hard parts of my life- and allows Him to transform them into something that can nourish someone else. In my charcuterie business, my real estate career, + my personal life, I’m often saying my favorite part is the people. I’m both an oversharer + a yapper, + I can’t help either. I love meeting people, getting to know people. Togetherness. Connection. Celebrating. Gathering. Being a villager + having a village. Watching people do + share life together is so special. Physically, charcuterie gives me a platform to create beautiful tables for people to gather around. Spiritually, it fills my cup to watch food become nourishment far beyond the physical, but to create communion + bring people together in celebration.
It’s my little sister’s 21st birthday + I’m signing off to have lunch + spend the day celebrating with family! But, I hope to leave you with two things to ponder this beautiful, hot Sunday morning…
1. What part of the body do you think God called you to be?
2. Reminder you are made for a purpose, completely unique to you, but not more important than anyone else’s, because the whole idea is we make up the body together 🫶
MWAH love y’all + happy Sunday💋
“But God has so composed the body... that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.”
1 Corinthians 12:24–25
“They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.”
Acts 2:46
“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
Romans 12:4-8
