It’s Gentian season in the Pines. 💙

📸 1 - the Pine Barrens gentian (Gentiana autumnalis), a globally rare, fall-blooming perennial wildflower native to the Atlantic coastal plain. Spotted along the Wading River.

📸 2 - Bottle gentian (Gentiana andrewsii) features cylindrical, tube-like flowers that remain tightly closed even at full bloom and require strong pollinators to pry them open. This native was spotted along our swamp last week while harvesting Jewelweed for our popular Itch Sticks.

Bottle gentian (*Gentiana andrewsii*) is one of our late-season woodland treasures, with deep blue blooms that stay tightly closed until a determined pollinator finds its way inside. A small reminder that nature always has a few secrets

Thank you to everyone that came out to Wheaton Arts & Cultural Center this weekend despite the rain.

We had a great weekend talking beeswax, dipping candles and finding the perfect glass pumpkin.

Our next festival will be at the Batsto Country Living Fair on Sunday Oct 18. And the shoppe is open Wednesday-Sunday.

Here’s our October!

This weekend we’ll be at Wheaton Arts & Cultural Center for their Festival of Fine Craft. It’s a wonderful show and one of the best-organized events from a vendor’s POV. New this year - we’ll be demonstrators! Follow the scent of beeswax and find us set up next to the General Store. Participates will also be able to hand-dip their own candle to take home.

Sunday October 18 is another favorite event, the Batsto County Living Fair! This year we’ll be set up in front of the Mansion on the hill with the antiques. A lot of personal volunteer hours go into planning this event. Visit from 10a - 4p and see antique tractors, demonstrations, live music, community groups and of course, the artisans!

On Saturday October 24 from 2p-7p we’ll be doing candle-dipping at the Autumn Lands Festival at the Historic Smithville Park in Eastampton Burlington County. The festival is a celebration of all things Autumn featuring Axe Women Loggers of Maine, magicians, Victorian Lantern Show, spooky silent films, a cryptic hunt, tarot readings, artisan demonstrations, gypsy dancers, drum circle, bonfire, pumpkin hayrides, food trucks and a Viking encampment by Clan of the Raven.

And the shoppe open Wednesday - Saturday 10a-6p and Sunday 10a-4p.

The 5th Annual Pine Barren Makers Fest took place this past weekend and we couldn’t have asked for a better time. Thank you to everyone that stopped by our booth and thank you to our incredible team for helping this brand come to life.

We emptied our new brick and mortar and set up our mobile general store in the same field I grew up playing and riding dirt bikes in.

{Fun fact - Mullica River Cottages and I grew up in the house across the street from the festival grounds. Our parents built the house over several years after moving from Tuckerton 1989.}

Patrick and Carlina make it look so easy to host an event of this caliber. It’s wonderful to see all the support they have from their family, friends, vendors and community! Let’s do it again real soon!

Our shoppe will be closed this weekend so that we can set up at the Pine Barren Makers Fest. You definitely need to go. It’s hands-down the best festival in the area. So many vendor friends will be there as well.

New for us this year is a double booth! A corner spot on the east side, so there will be plenty of space to move around inside. Mullica River Cottages will be our booth neighbor with all kinds of vintage treasures.

We’ve vended here for the past 4 years, so here are some fun memories.

New Fall additions are now the shoppe. 🍂

Stop in and check out new black beeswax, garlic candles, vertebrate bone candles, hand brooms from Husk Brooms , walnut candles, Primative cinnamon black beeswax, locally-carved wooded utensils, leather goods from Redwood Durable, new teas, fire c***r and more.

Most of these items will also come with us to Pine Barren Makers Fest this weekend Sept 19 & 20.

A wonderful Saturday in Downtown Haddonfield with a little old-fashioned candle making.

This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of joining the Borough of Haddonfield for a bit of living history — demonstrating the traditional art of dipping candles, one layer of beeswax at a time.

There’s something pretty special about taking a step back from the modern world and making something by hand the way folks did generations ago. We loved sharing the process, talking beeswax, and introducing a new generation to this nearly forgotten craft.

A great big thank you to the Borough of Haddonfield for having us and to everyone who stopped by to watch, learn, and dip! We had a great turnout of folks of all ages.

This Labor Day, we’re looking for a new hand at the shoppe.

Pine Barrens Post is looking for a part-time Shoppe Associate to join us for the 2026 holiday season. We’re a small, independently owned general store filled with our handmade goods, local products, candles, honey, gifts, and a whole lot of Pine Barrens charm.

We’re looking for someone who is Pine Barrens-savvy, friendly, dependable, detail-oriented, and who enjoys sharing the why behind a product. You’ll help customers, run our Shopify POS, restock and merchandise the shoppe, pull online orders, receive inventory, and help with holiday events and the day-to-day happenings at the Post.

More details: Location: Sweetwater, NJ
Seasonal: now – December Hours: Part-time, approximately 8–15 hours/week to start Days: Weekend availability required 
Retail experience is a plus, but personality, reliability, and a willingness to learn matter more to us.

If you love charming little shops, handmade goods, being in the woods, and helping people find something special, you might just fit right in at the Post.
