RidgeTop Apiaries

RidgeTop Apiaries Ridgetop Apiaries is dedicated to producing high quality VSH Queens, 5 Frame Nucs and Raw Honey. We are a small family run business located in Baxter, TN.

We also offer free swarm removal. RidgeTop Apiaries is located in middle Tennessee in the hills of the Cumberland Plateau. We are a small family run business that takes pride in quality. I had been raising queens for my own use, but before I began to offer queens for sale, I felt that I needed to be certain of offering a high quality queen. My desire to do this lead me to travel to Michigan, wher

e I was taught the art of queen rearing by Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Conner. While there, we discussed the importance of combining varroa resistant genetics with genes from locally adapted populations of bees in order to introduce the resistant genetic trait and still maintain productivity in any given region. After returning from the school in Michigan I began to implement this type of breeding program which has produced excellent queens. Also, because of our location in the mountains, we are away from large row crops and our bees are as pesticide free as possible. All of our queens are allowed to lay for four weeks in order that only those with the best qualities are offered to our customers.

We currently have Queens available for June. You can place your order now by visiting our website https://ridgetopapiari...

Several people have called looking for the winter candy recipe that I use. ( For bees only )

4 pounds of sugar
1 pint of water
1 teaspoon of white vinegar
1 pound of pollen substitute if desired

Mix sugar, water and vinegar in large pot.
Bring this mxture to a boil and turn heat down to low and let simmer for 15 minutes. This allows the sugar to invert and become more digestable for the bees.

After simmering for 15 minutes, turn the heat back to high and bring the temp up to 235-240 degrees.

Remove from heat and add pollen substitute if desired . I recommend it.

Mix with mixer for 2 minutes and pour into foil lined pans to cool. Place on top of the frames. May require spacer.

No more nucs for 2013, we have sold all that were available. VSH Queens are available and as always marking and clipping is free.
