👩🏻🌾The food is growing and it sure will be abundant! I appreciate everyone’s patience with me this season…as with any other, this season has posed many challenges. But if there’s one thing farmers are good at, it’s observing, adapting, and often…being patient! Here’s some of the obstacles 2025 has posed…❄️ Unusually cool May…late frosts, cold soil temperatures, and continued cold nights that slowed everything from planting dates to germination rates to early season growth. 💦 Delayed access to irrigation water…there is no annual set date for when the ditches will flow and when the water will be released through our head gate…we are at the mercy of snow pack levels, snow melt, reservoir levels, and release schedules and this year was a few weeks later than usual. 🛠️ Projects and improvements! I’ve tried to maintain my planting schedules to the best of my ability while fitting in major greenhouse construction, widening my beds and reducing my isles, and revamping my irrigation system, amongst other improvements to my infrastructure such as wash station remodeling. 🥵 How about that heat wave in June?! It’s very unusual that we experience temperatures in the mid-90’s in June, let alone for several weeks in a row. It looks like extreme heat is here to stay as it hasn’t cooled off much now that it’s early July. 🙏 Please consider how many factors farmers have to adapt to that are beyond their control. I assure you I will have more and more variety and quantity of fresh produce from my farm each and every week! 👩🏻🌾
