The headlines say Humboldt finally killed the Measure S cultivation tax. They called it a clean slate. But let’s look at the actual math.

The county is still hunting down $11.45 million in back taxes. Right now, exactly 518 active legacy permits are sitting on the chopping block. That’s over half the county’s active farms facing suspension or revocation for debts that piled up while the wholesale market crashed.

It’s hard to celebrate a “win” when the bill for the last few years is still sitting on the kitchen table.

It’s a heavy reality for the community right now. We’re staying focused on preserving the heritage of the plant and letting the resin speak for itself.

The tax man might be changing his tune, but the grit it takes to grow in Humboldt hasn’t changed a bit.

Let’s talk about the Blue Layers.🫐

If you’ve spent any time looking out over the ridges on the Lost Coast, you know that heavy, distinct blue haze. It looks great in a photo, but the actual reality of what’s happening up there is way more interesting than just a nice view.

Yes, the Earth’s atmosphere naturally scatters blue light. But things get amplified up there. The ancient conifers around us and the Humboldt heritage genetics (when in season) are rooted in our living soil and pump out massive amounts of terpenes as a natural defense mechanism.

When those terpenes hit the heavy Pacific mist rolling in from the coast, the particles swell. It creates a thick, localized aerosol that physically traps and scatters that blue light across the horizon. You’re literally looking at a breathing ecosystem sweating out its full-spectrum profile into the air. 🤩💨

While industry consolidation pushes everyone indoors into sterile, climate-controlled boxes, we’re out here letting the raw elements of the mountain shape the harvest. You just can’t fake this kind of terroir.⛰️

You can’t fake roots like these. 🌲

This redwood stump is a reminder that we’re standing on the shoulders of the 1960s back-to-the-land movement. We’ve watched the world go from “outlaw” to “oversight,” but while the paperwork changed, the dirt didn’t.

We’re a family farm preserving the Humboldt Heritage that started long before the “Green Rush”. This is single-source, legacy-led science grounded in the Bordeaux of the West.

The sun at 2,700ft isn’t your friend; it’s a problem the plant has to solve.🌞

Thinner air in Kneeland means the UV intensity is basically a drill. To keep from getting fried, the plant triggers its UVR8 receptor, which is really just a fancy way of saying it grows its own sunscreen out of pure resin.🤩

That extra layer of “survival grease” is where the flavor and depth come from. This isn’t misinformation, it’s just a plant trying its hardest not to get a sunburn on the mountain.⛰️

We aren’t just tilling dirt for the hell of it, we’re building a subterranean buffet. Taking 100% of our biomass from the last harvest and composting it with leaves from the surrounding hardwood forest. 🍃

By tilling it back in, we’re ⚡️charging⚡️ the soil to mimic the natural forest floor.

It’s definitely more work than plugging in a nutrient pump, but the stats don’t lie.📈

Deep Roots: Tilling lets the roots dive up to 45 inches deep to find exactly what they need.

Real Terroir: Cultivating in the native soil is the only way to legally claim that “Bordeaux of Cannabis” title under SB 67.

The Vibe: When you grow in living earth, you get a complexity of aromatics that a warehouse can’t touch.

We’re keeping it legacy, keeping it in the ground, and keeping it real. 💚💛❤️

The Legacy

Let’s be real. The market is flooded with mass-produced, corporate cannabis right now. We do the exact opposite. Errl Hill is a single-source, family-owned legacy farm up in Kneeland. Led by Scott Harris, we survived the outlaw days and we’re stubbornly standing our ground through this corporate squeeze. We’re here to protect the living essence of The Plant.

The Science of Terroir

We grow at 2,700 feet. Up here, our plants are rooted in mineral-dense living soil and soaked in Pacific mist. That specific Humboldt ecology actually changes the science. When it’s time to harvest, we flash-freeze everything. It’s the only way to lock in those full-spectrum profiles and protect delicate compounds before they degrade; like catching α-Pinene way before it hits that 311°F boiling point.

The Archive

We let The Stats and the quality do the talking. Whether you're checking out our Solventless Live Rosin Archive, our organic Living Soil Flower, or grabbing an AIO Errl Pen, it’s all about preserving exactly what the soil created. Think of it as the Bordeaux of California cannabis.
