Meet the flock: sheep edition

The last additions to the flock are also Shetland sheep. The spotted girl is Dottie and we are still coming up with a good name for her sister. They were born in April and May. Despite being younger, they are a little bigger than the other four Shetlands. They are the shyer two of the group but coming around.

Meet the flock: Sheep edition

We recently got some Shetland sheep to add to the flock! The first four girls were born in May 2026. They have been on “quarantine” and friendliness training since we brought them home. They are going to go into a field adjacent to the big field that the rest of the flock is in this weekend. We are still working on names that fit them and might need some help with name suggestions! So put a name suggestion in the comments! Most of our sheep have names that end with Y.

Charcoal is an older ewe (maybe 12 years old) that also came from our friend Felesha. Charcoal was a breeding ewe who needed a retirement home. She is an east friesian cross. She is a very sweet girl who can normally be found off doing her own thing. She is halter broke and still going strong!

Jojo (Jolene) is the baby of the group! Her mom is Dolly. She was born 3/14/2024 and we got to witness the whole thing! Despite not being a bottle baby, she is super friendly! It was so fun watching her grow up. She was a single so she is the biggest one of the Finnsheep group. She is a pure Finnsheep.

Meet the flock: sheep edition

Dolly is the last member of the original trio. She was born 3/16/2017 and was a triplet. Dolly was named after Dolly Parton. She bowed her tendon as a lamb and was rehabbed the same way as a horse. She even had her tendon ultrasounded! She made a full recovery. She loves chest scratches and was a wonderful mama.

Meet the flock: sheep edition

Lucy (Lucifer/lucy in the sky with diamonds) was born on 3/12/2018 and is the full sister of Ruby. We brought her home with the other two on 4/13/2018. Lucy is black with little white spots throughout her wool which is how she got her name. She is the piggy of the group and can be found stuffing her face with food. She is friendly and loves scratches to her chest.

Meet the flock: sheep edition

Ruby is one of the three original sheep we have owned. Ruby and Lucy are full sisters and were born 3/12/2018, they were quads meaning their mom had four babies at one time. Finn sheep are known for being able to have multiples. They are a tri purpose breed: milk, meat, and fiber. Finns are some of the friendliest and personable sheep I have ever met. The original three were early weaned bottle babies, so they all started on mom and were supplemented with a bottle before being weaned early to the bottle. We brought them home on 4/13/2018. Ruby was the fanciest looking lamb and most skiddish at first. She became friendly really fast. Now you can whistle and call for the sheep and they will come running over to you. These girls have gone from Leesburg to Oakton to WV to Re*****on to Bealeton! They are the sweetest babies and Ruby is my love bug!

Meet the herd: horse edition

Ash is another horse on loan to us from our friend Felesha. He used to be a ranch horse. He was born in 2000 so he is an older guy but is dead broke. He is the perfect beginner horse and is fun for the experienced rider also. He has been working on gaining some weight and muscle since we got him. He did recently go offsite with one of our barn helpers and Eli. So far he also seems like a fearless trail mount!
