Channel 4 news caught up with Lane yesterday at our summer range. The ewes are ready to head back down to our winter feeding grounds. Today they were trailed 11 miles from our summer range to Mantua. They will rest there tonight. Tomorrow they will walk out the canyon. Then on to 6th East and down 6th west as we follow the established livestock trail Eph Jensen started in the 1930's. We will end up at Grant range bulls to eat and rest for a couple days.

The local newspaper, the Leader, gave our family ranch a write up. We love being able to continue walking the same trails that Eph, then Karl and now Lane and our children do. We love seeing so many people waiting for our sheep parade to walk by. The laughs, the squeals, the excitement and wonder at how we get all 2200 momma ewes to follow their shepherd on the journey home.

Join us for the Brigham City sheep trail. On Saturday, October 25, 2,200 sheep will make their way to winter pastures. The sheep will leave Mantua at 8:00 am, trail down Sardine Canyon, and make their way through Brigham City around 9:00 am. To follow the flock, visit www.ephjensenlivestock.com for more information.

Eph Jensen Livestock has run sheep through Mantua, Sardine Canyon, and Brigham City in an annual sheep drive following a historic livestock trail since the 1930s.

Lane had to to our summer range yesterday to take supplies to our sheepherder. Because we're putting up hay he got a late start. The ewes are getting settled for the evening. Sorry the video is blurry.

We spent last week getting the sheep sheared before lambing starts. The pictures below are what goes on for 4 days.

The mommas getting ready for their yearly haircut. This side of the plant is where they pull the shorn wool out to be graded. The shearers and graders are usually from all over the world. The shear foreman is from South Africa. The men who are inside doing the shearing come from Australia, New Zealand and one gal from New York. We even had a shearer from Japan.

The 2 mommas just came out the other side. The ewe with her head poked out is waiting to be pulled to shear.
The large piles of wool are compressed into a bag. They usually weigh around 400 to 450 lbs. each bale has has our brand and the grade of the wool. You can see the grade, says FINE on each bale. This year we had 50 bales of wool.

Now that shearing is over we trailed from little mountain into the lambing sheds to begin the busiest 6 weeks of the year. It's not easy. there's a lot of blood, sweat and tears through the coming days. We will never get rich by taking care of livestock. We do it because we love it and we are blessed to continue the visions and legacy Eph (Lane's grandpa) and Lane's dad Karl had envisioned and handed down to Lane. .1928

Lane's sister, Ann Kathleen Jensen, started using some of the wool we produce to sell to spinners and weavers throughout the states. This article appears in the winter Spin Off magazine. She has worked very hard gathering wool by following each chosen ewe through the shearing plant. She then brings the wool home to sort it and skirt it. Some of the wool gets sent out to be washed and carded while others get sold as raw wool. We are very proud and impressed at what she is achieving with Eph Jensen Woolworks.

We have gotten a late start. The sheep are on the road in Mantua. We will be in the canyon in about 10 minutes.
