So I’m assuming everyone is picking up what my latest hobbies are. Watching things turn into other things. Worms, mushrooms, my ginger bug and most recently my pickled red onions. Today I started a pineapple and an apple vinegar and honestly, I’m so excited about these two!
The worms and bees are hands down my favorites, the mushrooms were fun to watch grow and using their substrate for the worms was perfect. The ginger bug kind of flopped, but I’m no quitter and will try again. The pickled onions are so beautiful and delicious, and I have a super good feeling about these vinegars!! Can you imagine a fish marinade with a pineapple vinegar?
But let me tell you the BEST part. All of the ingredients for these projects come from Gleaners, our Clackamas County food share program. You join like a co-op, pay your monthly dues, volunteer weekly or monthly and in turn get enough food to feed yourself, your family and half the neighborhood. Ginger Bug Day Six!
It’s starting to bubble 🤗
I started out with two cups of water, two tablespoons of chopped ginger and two tablespoons of sugar.
Each day I add one tablespoon each of sugar and ginger, stir a few times a day and wait…
I can’t wait to try it with some lemonade!

Guess who’s fermenting!
This is my first attempt at a ginger bug 🤗

My Maybe Garden is doing SO well! I’ve never had this much success-other than the chickens eating most of round one 😬
This is the comfrey and borage and they’re getting HUGE.
I’m growing the comfrey for compost and chicken snacks and everything else for pollinators. And, to help make the out of control landscape appear intentional 🤷🏼‍♀️
