FYI... If you use pyrantel pamoate horse dewormer for foal deworming and haven't bought it yet, get on it. Exodus and Durvet appear to be on backorder until at least August at most main sources. There is some Strongid around, but it might go fast.

Mimosa's champagne dun filly... I'm expecting big things from this one! Now that our last foal has arrived, my brain has switched to "can't wait for them to shed off" mode. This hair is thick, and did its job keeping her warm, but bring on shedding season for babies!

Twhizter x Whiz Dun N Champagne 2026 AQHA Amber Dun filly E? Aa D? (hair being sent this week for testing), 6+ panel negative by parentage.

Photo of yearling full sibling (double homozygous, dun filly) included just because that mane is awesome, and I hope this filly has a thick and long one, too!

Jaci got the memo! Yesterday (May Day), her water broke literally 30 seconds after I closed the gate to go clean her stall. In 15 minutes, her grulla filly was here! "May" was up before Jaci even stood up! Jaci's foals never disappoint, and we're excited to watch this one grow up. She will be able to leave us in about October. I'll try to send all of the foals' hair off for testing this week. This one will be homozygous for dun factor (both parents are DD) and has a 50% chance of being EE.

Twhizter ("Ed") gave his yearlings his crazy mane gene...

We'll work on getting the last of the winter hair off in the next couple of weeks. Yearlings hold onto it so much longer than mature horses here, even though we deworm them frequently. We're expecting frost in the next couple of nights, and then we are to stay in the 40's or higher for a week... or maybe until fall!

I watched the temperature plummet all night, and hoped Kitty would hold off until later today. She chose to foal when we hit the low of 7⁰ F. 🙄🙄 Hopefully, all is well though. I did my best to dry the ears, let them bond, and then got a warmed blanket on the baby.

I swear it has 2 teats and a girl part under the tail, but you might remember that I've imagined those things before. 🤣

I do know it's grulla, homozygous black, 50% chance of HZ dun factor, at least 6 panel negative, and much larger than Kitty's foal last year (Frank... my most recent misgendered baby 😉). I will test her before offering her.

Now, coffee ☕️ for me and rest for them!

Another 2026 foal that should be coming soon will be out of "Kitty," DHR Makin Me Chex, our granddaughter of Tomcat Chex and Highbrow Hickory. She is bred to Twhizter, our Holidoc grandson that is sired by Spin Whiz Me.

Kitty and the foal's sire (Twhizter aka ED) are both EE and Twhizter is also DD.
This foal will be grullo and Homozygous for black, with a 50% chance of also being homozygous for dun factor.

Kitty is progressing rapidly, and while I don't think she will foal tonight, we are going to begin Foal Watch 2026 starting now!
