We had to take Mr. Gunner to VT, late Wednesday night. We brought him up from lower pasture, and he was hot & sweating. We held his grain till he cooled down, but I noticed he acted like he wanted to lay down but didn't. We fed him, and he took one bite and tried to lay down, so he immediately was given some banamine, and we started walking him. After no luck with pain relief, he got another dose of banamine and another walking. When he still had no relief, I called a couple of vets. With one on the way and the other saying they could only tube him but not be able to provide him fluids, we decided to head to VT. After full evaluation, ultrasounding, tubing, it was determined he had a displaced colon with a small impaction. Dr. McKenzie, who is awesome, said a 50/50 chance it would correct itself with medical treatment. We left there with him getting 20L of fluid and them looking for a large enough muzzle to put on him due to the tube being left in. I told them he would get that tube out and get the line out if they didn't secure them very well. By Friday, he was doing much better, and his colon had moved back to where it should be. They ended up taking a 5 gal bucket and made a muzzle for him. When they checked on him Friday morning, he had chewed his IV line into, and it was hanging from his mouth. I knew right then that he was feeling much better! He has to stay till Sunday to make sure he is eating and pooping like he should be. God answers prayers!
