Last one for today…still shot from the recent Cal Middleton clinic in Lone Jack, MO. First time actually practicing coiling/uncoiling while following the hotheels and first time doing anything roping related for Blackie, the horse. It was outrageously fun, even though my face probably looked grumpy most of the time due to concentration. Cal is an extremely talented teacher- teaching and being excellent at any skill are two completely different abilities that do not always go hand in hand. Cal has both - I appreciate that immensely and in a few short months the lessons I have taken with him have really VASTLY improved my riding skills. I am a fortunate human to be surrounded by absolutely wonderful mentors and friends❤️

The first photo is from the trim David Landreville helped me with at his recent clinic in Goreville, IL. The second photo is from a few years ago. Blackie, the horse, used be shod on all four feet until we got him. His feet have had to deal with me learning how to trim, meaning, if I had his feet fresh out of shoes now, I would be able to get them growing out more balanced sooner. Even so, I am so happy with the development of his feet and in this entire process he has never been unsound. I learn so much at ‘s clinics each year I attend them- not only because I am growing as a trimmer but also because David keeps evolving his own depth of understanding. It is a real treat to learn from someone who is so committed to the horse, his own understanding and knowledge and his ability to teach it to others. As usual, the horses didn’t disappoint in their willingness and understanding to communicate their hoofcare needs to David and it is always inspiring to see how fully the participate in the trimming conversation ❤️

First stage of 2026 lambing is complete! You may wonder why lambing is in stages this year….well, we ended up having to shift rams around and I anticipate a second “batch” of lambs in a month or two- not ideal, but one thing that is a MANDATORY lesson in livestock husbandry is to go with the flow and have an infinite capacity to change course on a dime! These girls all had huge singles and there are only two ewe lambs. As always, there is nothing cuter than lambs!!!

It has been a while….amazing what happens when I give myself a bit more leeway- woosh, and off I went on a sewing tangent! That’s ok, though. I have so many passions and they all need their moment in the spotlight of my life. Funny, how letting myself work on this drawing for a couple of days has led to not knowing when it is done….I want to add words but the words haven’t come yet. It has one more day of gestating and then I will turn the page. I started this drawing on the day the bees were flying for the first time this year- it coincided with a moment of the cattle staring at me…always such a blessing and miracle when the bees make it through the winter! Now to keep them alive until they can feed themselves again❤️🤞🏾

Drawing from yesterday- quick sketches of moving targets, aka pets. Mostly Stella, one Freya and one Hiro head. Taking a break between “stomping through snow” to feed the outdoor Beings and soon SNOW SHOVELING. 🤣🤣🤣….and I thought today was my day off from exercising. Enjoy the snow day, loves! Take an extra deep breath whenever you can and CHOOSE your nest action, regardless of it being big or small. Feed what you want to have more of with your loving attention ❤️

Today, weaving again, and on my “new to me” loom. Bitterly cold and brilliant day here today- makes everything take twice as long, twice as precious and infinitely more vibrant and vital. The weaving, though…..warp is linen, pattern weft yarn is handspun Icelandic from Mr Scragglehorn and tabby weft linen again. Am hoping to use this yardage to make myself a shirt.

Well, THAT is surprising! Finally managed to sit down and draw before I was dead tired….did the birds, tree, mouse, calf first and then saw this face stare at me out of the patterns of the handmade paper. And that is how that Being showed herself. Many breasted- like Artemis or Mama Allpa….good inspiration for morning reading. I am glad she showed up❤️…..and soon, photos of the start of linen/handspun wool yardage🤩

Yesterday and the beginning of something for today…I will let myself sit with this, let it nestle in my inner vision and dance with my body. Have looked at these trees every day, from that angle, for years…the first time that I have seen a “woman” emerging, or co-existing with that tree remnant. Sketched it down on the back of an envelope- my favorite place to jot stuff on. Who knows what visual landscape she wants to be a part of- I will see what she says in my dreams.

Yesterday was a WHIRLWIND of creativity, none of it expressed through the visual pen-to-paper realm. I had to allow myself to skip my drawing: preparing doughs (for both Pannetone and Bagels) plus weaving prep and a whole host of other things kept me busy. So, this tree is actually Saturday’s drawing…this week I will allow myself free rein- no restrictions on source material, and I will see if I can maintain a sense of listening and exploration. If not, training wheels in the shape of rules, get put back on. Happy Monday- it is a glorious day and I hope you can find a scintillating piece of love, fun, joy and appreciation tucked in your day, somewhere, just for you! Like a little secret….❤️

Late posting this today….it has been a funny day. And this is a funny drawing! Maybe the drawing was trying to tell me something about this day….things are getting weirder the more I let go of any ideas of what to depict…out on a limb❤️
