Learning the little details of raising quail 🐣🤎 Today’s farm task: vent s*xing!

One way to check the s*x of a mature Coturnix quail is by gently turning them over and looking just above the vent. Males typically have a small swollen foam gland, and when you gently press around it, a white foamy substance may come out. Females usually won’t have that foam gland and tend to have a wider vent, especially when they’re laying. 🐥

It’s actually pretty simple once you know what you’re looking for! 😂 Just another day of learning and growing here at Mesa Bison Farms. 🌾🤎

My girls’ feathers are FINALLY starting to grow back in! 🥹🐔💕 We had way too many roosters for a while, but now that we have a much better hen-to-rooster ratio, they’re looking so much better! And the home remedies we’ve been using seem to be working perfectly. 🙌🏼✨ So happy to see my girls getting their beautiful feathers back! ❤️

One of our little Turken babies that we hatched right here on the farm! 🐣🖤 I’ve posted him before when he was still ALL black, but recently I started noticing these super cool feathers coming in! 😍✨

I honestly wasn’t expecting him to feather out like this, but I’m loving it! I guess barnyard mixes aren’t so bad after all 😂 You truly never know what you’re going to get — sometimes they turn out absolutely beautiful! 🐔🖤✨

Can’t wait to see what he looks like fully grown! 👀
