Bellaire Nursery & Farm

Bellaire Nursery & Farm Real food revolution! Evolved from a home garden we now grow over 50 kinds of heirloom tomatoes and peppers as well as other various fruits and vegetables.

In the spring we start with plants for sale, then in the summer and fall we have produce. We also raise chickens for their eggs that freely range on pasture.

It’s the perfect time to plant your garden, and we have all your favorite garden starts in stock! Find us at Sara Hardy Downtown Farmers Market in Traverse City on Wednesdays (next to the SEEDS hut along the river) and on Saturdays (across from the Bijou Theater, Grandview Parkway) with the Torch Lake Co-op, and at the Bellaire Farmers Market on Fridays.

None of our plants are too mature and root-bound!
We’ve got dozens of different heirloom and hybrid tomato and pepper varieties, lots of cucumbers and zucchini, herbs such as basils, rosemary, thyme, and parsley, as well as the weird ones like honeywort and rose mint! So many perennial and annual flowers for all different growing conditions, plus lots of vines to decorate your fences or trellis.

New this week are Leelanau SweetGLO watermelon starts, as well as winter squash varieties like spaghetti and delicata.

Attention pepper enthusiasts! We will be at the Sara Hardy Farmers Market Wednesday and Saturday in Downton Traverse City in Lot B along the river next to the SEEDS hut with the Torch Lake Co-op from 8-noon with the season's best selection of sweet and hot pepper garden starts. These plants are timed for northern Michigan gardens, started from seed, and planted in high quality soil. We never use neonics or other pesticides on our plants, we grow them for our own farm!

Also available are heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, perennials, annuals, cucumbers and zucchinis, plus herbs and flowers both common and rare. Mix and Match all plants, $5 each or 5 for $20.

We are seeking farm interns, apprentices, and technicians. $14-$25+ based on experience, paid bi-weekly cash or check. We are willing to train our sub-contractors, we have flexible schedules, and we promote from within. Previous farm experience is good, but those who have restaurant, landscaping, or other outdoor labor experience could be a good fit, as could students with no experience. We value punctuality, attention to detail, and willingness to learn while doing. This position is appropriate for individuals interested in food production, regular exercise in the outdoors, and the aesthetic of beautiful fields, gardens, and produce. We are looking for help in the following areas:
–Greenhouse (site preparation, transplanting, plant maintenance, and harvest)
–Field (site prep, transplanting, plant maintenance, and harvest)
–Produce (organize, portion, and pack for markets)
Much of the work is done together, though tasks may also be assigned based on interest and ability.
Opportunities to work in other aspects of farm life like carpentry and construction also exist.

The Meeting Place + Mercantile might not be open yet, but we're making the most of our spot in Downtown Bellaire over the holiday weekend. You can find us on the sidewalk out front for:

🌱 A seedling sale with Torch Lake Co-op on Friday, May 22nd.
🏡 An open house with the Crosshatch team on Saturday, May 23rd.

We're looking forward to sharing more about our plans and getting to know more folks in the Bellaire community.

Wild weather day at Sara Hardy Market in Traverse City this morning! All those pretty herbs? They are indeed still available! Shop for our plants for delivery or pickup, we’ve opened a Wednesday order cycle! Head to our favorite co-op, www.torchlake.coop and click on Shop.

Not pictured here is a diverse array of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant, a fresh collection of cucumber starts, as well as flowers and herbs. They’re in good condition still, so if you have planting plans, please visit our online farmer’s market and order before Monday at midnight!

We did tell some of our shoppers that we would be there next week, but then realized that Cherry Festival is upon us next Saturday and we usually don’t do market during the festival.

So the best way to get the rest of your garden in is to order online, and we will see you on Wednesday! ✌🏻
