Coping with the loss of a calf is a heartbreaking situation, whether due to a difficult birth, disease or a tragic accident. Unfortunately the farm had a loss hopefully due to an accident but we are still waiting to hear the final results. Wednesday afternoon we returned home to a sad heifer licking her deceased calf in a pasture that was supposed to be her safe space. A calf that we never got to meet and had waited forever for. After checking it over and racking our heads trying to figure out why a perfect looking calf didnt make it we found an entry and an exit wound through her neck from a gun shot. We are truly hoping that this was a complete accident and not a targeted event but we may never have answers.

Pretty sure cow math is harder than chicken math. We left this morning with only 19 and came home to now having 21. Ginger came home with us from Jackson today and Sage was a surprise waiting for us! Also it took 3 of us 10 minutes to figure out how many cows we actually have.
