Today we're releasing an extraordinarily special beer: "Welcome To Earth," a 12° Czech-style Pilsner brewed to celebrate the birth of our first child, Florian, who arrived here on this planet this week.

It's an old tradition to brew special beers to commemorate important events. In this case we decided on a Czech-style pale lager, brewed to a celebratory strength (for Otherlands) of 5.0%, for two reasons: as liquid thanks to some very special folks in Prague, and because we love drinking Czech Pilsner!

Brewed with Bohemian Pilsner malt, a labor intensive triple decoction mash, and Czech and Polish hops, this full strength, full bodied, full flavored pale lager is our way of welcoming a new human to this strange other land we all live in. Look for a robust, rustic maltiness balanced against an herbal, bright, and floral hop flavor and a pronounced, quenching bitterness.

"Welcome To Earth" goes on tap today in the cafe. In addition to our regular draft pours from our Czech faucets and German gravity kegs, we invite you to try a "mlíko," or milk pour. For the uninitiated, this is a soft, creamy, pour off the side pull faucet of damn near 100% foam. While we've been pouring mlíkos forever (just ask anyone who knows the O'lands secret menu) we thought it fun to highlight these tasty, milk-esque beer pours in sympathy with Florian's current taste in food. We promise you: you'll enjoy as mlíko as much as he does.

Save the date!! The 7th Annual Sunnyland Fest is just around the corner, September 18-20! Join us and fellow Sunnyland breweries, Wander Brewing, Stemma Brewing - West, El Sueñito Brewing Company, Kulshan Brewery for an epic pub crawl celebrating Festbiers!

Over the next few days, in anticipation of a very special delivery (more on that soon), we’re tempering our excitement with a sneak peek of our once-a-year Festbier lager. The truth is, Ben has been drinking it off the tank for a week or so now and thought it only fair to share a bit with you, our friends and customers.

So, this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, we’ll be featuring small gravity kegs of a kellerbier version of our Festbier, „Excessive Celebrations.” While still youthful and unpolished, we think it’s showcasing a beautiful balance of full, rustic maltiness, and fruity, ye**ty expression.

We hope you enjoy this immature, rascal of a Festbier as much as we have been.

Gravity kegs tapped at 4:30 this Thursday, Friday & Saturday!

In the season of slushie fruit sours, triple IPAs, and berry infused hoppy ales so dense one is encouraged to perish within them, we submit to you a humble rejoinder: “Invincible Summer,” our Belgian-style Witbier. 🌞

That’s right, the classic old world wheat beer, with its outrageous drinkability, zesty carbonation, and ever-so-subtle spicing, the style that launched a thousand craft beer lovers, is now on tap at the cafe. In fact, as we just tapped our last keg!

We brewed “Invincible Summer” in collaboration with our old friend and co-worker Zach of Fountain Brewing using unmalted wheat, a double decoction mash, and a blend of orange peel, grapefruit zest, and coriander.

After a warm refermentation and conditioning in the kegs with our house saison strain, what has emerged is a bright, fruity little ale with a soft, wheaty body, spritzy carbonation, and an intensely refreshing finish. We think it’s a natural choice for these hot summer days and brilliant summer evenings. Like the season, however, “Invincible Summer” will soon be gone, so get it while you can. No lines, no pre-orders, and no case limits (we didn’t bottle any anyways!): just glasses of refreshing wheat beer and beautiful Bellingham weather.

And they said it couldn’t be done.

We’re not sure if anyone actually asked for a tiny beer but we did it anyways! For years folks have been asking us to make a non-alcoholic beer. Due to the expensive equipment required for NA beer and our insistence on making beer that tastes good, it’s been impossible for us. However, the desire among many for a flavorful beer with minimal alcoholic impact, has not fallen on deaf ears.

Behold: our 3.0% ABV Czech-style Pilsner, „Małe Piwko!” The culmination of a year of scheming, dreaming, and obsession, we brewed this 8° pale lager to balance full flavor with very modest alcohol.

A traditional Czech triple decoction mash was employed to build body and malt depth. Huge quantities of Bohemian Saaz and Polish Lubelski hops were boiled to increase the mouthfeel, provide a bright hop character, and imbue it with a snappy bitterness.

Despite its petite stature, we still gave our little Piwko over 5 weeks in the lagering tank to smooth out the rough edges. What has emerged is a full flavored, refreshing golden lager with a very modest alcohol level. Just ask Ben: he drank a 2L growler last night before bed and was up at 5am to brew today...

You may have noticed yet another delightfully odd and difficult to pronounce beer name, „Małe Piwko.” In Polish this literally just means „small beer.” However, „małe piwko” is also a Polish idiom that roughly translates to „no big deal.” It’s like saying „small potatoes.”

So, if you’re looking for a full flavored beer that really, truly, actually tastes like a beer, looking to reduce your alcohol intake, or yearning to drink 2 liters of Pilsner and feel wonderful the next morning, may we humbly recommend „Małe Piwko.” It’s no big deal.

🌸It’s time for our favorite weird, festive and totally wholesome neighborhood event; the 18th Annual Sunnyland Stomp, this Saturday from 3-8pm!🌸

We will be hosting our annual mini art market, feature live music from David Campbell, and we’ll be releasing a special new beer made just for the Stomp.

🐓A mini art market made up of artists that are part of the community of Otherlands.

🐓Special local creative Amanda Amanda Rhine will be here offering her practice of reading Beer Foam, similar to how some read tea leaves.

🐓Local musician and friend, David Campbell will be serenading us with his acoustic set from 4:30-6:30pm

🐓Special beer release of „Małe Piwko”, 8° Czech Pilsner, brewed specifically for the Sunnyland Stomp! This triple decocted, heavily hopped with Czech Saaz all day drinker is stunningly full flavored with surprisingly low alcohol (3%!). „Małe Piwko” translates as „Small Beer” but it’s a Polish Idiom meaning „Small potatoes/no problem”.

✨Our neighbors at the Sunnyland Sawdust Collective will also be putting on a great display of art, live mural painting by Sage Zahorodni (the artist behind this year’s phenomenal poster) and much more.

Don’t miss this corner of the Stomp!

🚨Open from 10am-4pm July 4th, serving brunch!🚨Come see us and grab some tasty food and light lager before we close at 4pm (last call for food at 3:30). Open regular hours tomorrow, July 5th.

Have 4th of July everyone. For those who enjoy some light reading, some excerpts from President Gerald Ford’s speech on America’s Bicentennial in 1976:

"Such transfusions of traditions and cultures, as well as of blood, have made America unique among nations and Americans a new kind of people...We offered citizenship to all, and we have been richly
rewarded."

"Immigrants came from almost everywhere, singly and in waves... Like the Mayflower Pilgrims and the early Spanish settlers, these new Americans brought with them precious relics of the worlds they left
behind -- a song, a story, a dance, a tool, a seed, a recipe, the name of a place, the rules of a game, a trick of the trade.

Such transfusions of traditions and cultures, as well as of blood, have made America unique among nations and Americans a new kind of
people."

We’re celebrating the 4th of July in customary Otherlands style: releasing our once-a-year American Lager, ”American Water,” hosting an extra indulgent brunch... and taking the evening off!

That’s right, Saturday July 4th we’ll be offering ”Second Breakfast” brunch from 10am until 4pm (last call for food at 3:30).

After that we’re closing for the evening, kicking off our shoes, and celebrating the freedom of the individual by doing whatever strikes our fancy. Perhaps we’ll read some Walt Whitman or spin some Coltrane records. Maybe we’ll even trample out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored. Who knows? Whatever we decide, personally, we imagine we’ll be doing so with some ”American Water” in hand.

On that note, we wish to remind you that ”American Water” is our classic, old-school, cereal mashed, American lager brewed from US barley and organic rice flour. This year’s batch is exceedingly crisp and thirst quenching while still showcasing our expressive house lager yeast. We hope you enjoy some at our cafe or out in the world (we have bottles!) indulging whatever notion brings you joy in these strange times.

Good luck, America.
