This is so neat! I’ve been to seminars before about bird migration and how radar picks up on the busy nights!

BUSY RADAR IMAGE LAST NIGHT... BUT NO RAIN?

If you looked at the radar overnight, you may have noticed a lot of "rain". But, did you know the radar can detect other things than just rain, snow, and sleet? Last night was a busy bird migration night, and the number of birds was picked up on the NWS Pittsburgh radar! There are estimates of around 690k birds to cross the state overnight.

Tonight is expected to be an even busier night for migration, where millions of birds could take flight across the state. Keeping feeders clean, providing fresh water, and reducing outdoor artificial lights at night can help support migrating birds along their long journey. Have you seen any unique birds fly past your yard lately?

Punxsutawney Phil took one look at his shadow this morning and basically said, “Yeah… keep the snow brush handy.” Pennsylvanians everywhere nodded in quiet understanding, already knowing winter was never going to leave politely. That extra six weeks just means more gray skies, more coats that somehow weigh 40 pounds, and more mornings where the car doors don’t want to open out of spite. It’s the kind of forecast where you accept your fate, grab another cup of coffee, and remind yourself that at least we’re all suffering together.
