We had a great time at the Nature Neighbors festival today!

We taught kids about how worms are beneficial for soil health, how bees help with pollination, and all about trees of Minnesota with a tree “cookie” from our over 100 year old tree we lost in the storm last year.

It was great to see so many kids and families excited about nature!

New garden beds have been tilled, lots of weeding, and so much soil prep. It's hard work but seeing a stand full of beautiful vegetables and fruits make it all worth it!

The greenhouse is officially up and running and all of our tomato and pepper seeds have been planted!

The ground was so compacted from our equipment when installing the greenhouse, we needed a bit of extra help to break up the soil for good root development.

Our first crop of asparagus!

It is small but to us, it’s a big deal! Myles planted this last year and we are hoping by next year we will have enough to offer at the stand!

Did you know it takes asparagus 2-3 years to produce a real crop? Once the patch gets going it can produce for up to 20 years thanks to a strong and robust root system. We think it’s worth the wait!

Jordan and Myles planted some more apple trees today!

We now have 21 apple trees! With a few already producing for the stand, the rest will take some time before they start cranking out lots of apples.

We can’t wait until one day you can come pick apples right from the tree!

Myles and Paul are hard at work repairing the greenhouse from last years storm and it’s looking great!!

Of course they had finished building it the day before the storm hit but this year is all about getting us back on track with our farm plans!

This will allow us to help extend our growing season and expand our variety at the stand.

We had a great morning at Natures Edge Garden Center for a seminar on fruit trees!

Myles has been hard at work expanding the orchard section at the farm and learned some great tips and advice from Sam to help us on our farming journey!

So far we have 18 apple trees (lost a few in the storm last year 😢) but we are excited to add a few more varieties this year and looks like plum and cherries will be on the list too! So far only a few of our trees are old enough to produce enough fruit for the stand but we are excited for future years to allow for picking - or at least that’s the dream!
