Yesterday was a hard day. After 3 years of having chickens we lost our first one to a predator. 💔

I know you're not supposed to play favorites, but this girl was special. She loved her people & came running when she thought you might have something to share with her. She was also part of the first brooders we got.

We have lost a couple others over the years to heat, but this just felt more traumatic. Maybe because of how we found her. Pretty sure a raccoon got her. Those who know, know.

I know this is part of owning any type of livestock. There is always a risk. It doesn't make it easier.

Dahlia, you will be missed. 🖤

Y'all have seen me use this method before, but it truly is the best way I've found. This girl had some pasty butt going on, over the weekend. A good warm soak did the trick. This truly is the best way to soak chickens for various reasons. Works great for bumble foot soaks too.
