There’s a little bit of irony in saying this, but I recently started a job so I can afford my goats. 🙃

Because the reality of keeping dairy goats, especially if you’re trying to maintain a strict and quality breeding program is that it is really really hard to actually make a profit in this economy.

Feed, hay, minerals, medications, registration fees, show expenses, breeding expenses, equipment, fencing, electricity, vet bills, photography & website management, plus more… it adds up FAST. And that’s before you even factor in the time, labor, and emotional investment that goes into it too.

And of course the second I start job, my does all come into heat and my carefully planned breeding schedule goes out the window. 😂

My young buck is inexperienced, which certainly isn't helping. After this week, breeding attempts with him looks pretty silly as I’m literally chasing this boy around with a wooden "booster" block so he can reach the does and tries to figure out what exactly he’s supposed to be doing.🤦‍♀️ I've basically been pen-breeding too... which I hate.

I'm working really hard behind the scenes and I'm happy to announce I'll be going to some more shows this Fall! ❤️

This breeding is happening in the morning! 💙 I gotta chase little man around with a "booster block" before my first day of work. But this ain't my first rodeo and he's flying onto does with great enthusiasm so I think this'll work!🤣

She’s my Messy Monster… uh, I mean… Nessie Monster! 🦑😂

Ness-Mess will be 8 next April, and while she’s showing absolutely ZERO signs of slowing down or falling apart conformation-wise, I’d really love to put some embryos of hers away next season. 🤞

I’m really hoping she sticks with those 𝘼𝙜𝙖𝙥𝙚'𝙨 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙯𝙚 𝘼𝙭𝙡 𝙍𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝘾𝙌*𝘽 straws because I’d LOVE to retain a new herdsire out of her again!!

I'd be ever so grateful if she could give her usual order of 2does, 1 buck! Even better if we can stick with my beloved buckskin color. 😅 Gah! October will be here before I know it!!

Finally got a photo of this big feral girl! 🤣

It has been FOUR YEARS since her last photo shoot, and somehow this girl has managed to hold her conformation together pretty darn well! 💘

She’s definitely carrying more flesh than I want to see, but if you really know Nessie (Ness-Mess) you already know… she does whatever the hell she wants. 🙄🤣

You’re seeing her exactly as she is... her show side with her now miniature eye.

I wish I could put into words just how much this doe means to me. As a kid, she was 2nd at her very first show, then came back for her second outing and brought home that golden ribbon in the first ring. Since then she hasn’t seen the show ring and it has broken my heart she hasn't been back in...😔
Nessie daughters have always been better than their dam, and Karma and her littermate Koriko are no exception. Even at two years old, both girls are still incredibly immature yet so tightly and correctly put together. I have no doubt that with time, they’ll continue to develop into standout animals I already have evidence that they are.

If there’s one thing this dam line has taught me, it’s that time is its biggest benefit, never its downfall!
