In the meantime- here are some interesting facts about Arkansas Blackberries:

*Blackberries are a native, highly adaptable crop in Arkansas, thriving across all regions of the state. The local season typically runs from late May through July, with some primocane varieties producing fruit into the fall.

*Since 1964, the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture has run a celebrated blackberry breeding program. Varieties developed in Arkansas, such as Natchez, Ponca, Caddo, and Prime-Ark Freedom (the world’s first thornless primocane variety), are grown globally.

*There are 250 to 300 acres of commercial blackberries in the state, a sharp decline from the 3,000+ acres that were harvested during their peak in the 1940s

*To keep blackberries plump and fresh, experts recommend waiting to wash them right until the moment you are ready to cook or eat them.

*Blackberries are nutrient-dense superfoods, packed with fiber, vitamin C, and manganese, while remaining low in calories and fat.
