So this is sort of a long story, so stick around to the end, I'd love to hear your comments!
Last summer, every morning before we moved out of the old house, I kept hearing an owl that sounded like it was right outside of our bedroom window. We've heard them in the distance, but it struck me as odd that it was there every night for such a long period of time. I did a little research on it, but then didn't think much more about it when we moved. The old house was sold and moved out and our new house sits right where it used to be. Once we started to move in and settle into our new house, we could hear them on all sides of the house. It sounded like they were all around us for several nights in a row. So I started doing a little more research to see what the different spiritual and cultural meanings of owls could be. I learned that in a lot of religions and cultures, owls at night are a symbol of protection and guidance.
A few weeks ago, on a Sunday, I decided to hang a windchime that Cody's grandparents gave us as a housewarming gift years ago. The journey to our new home has taken way longer than anyone ever expected, so we kept the windchime in our storage, still in the box until this particular Sunday. The very next morning, we lost Cody's grandmother. That following weekend, Cody and I were sitting on our porch enjoying the night, and i remembered the research that I had done on owls. If I'm being honest, I was hoping that the owl conversation would bring him some sort of comfort after such a huge loss earlier in the week. So here we are, on our front porch and the words are actively coming out of my mouth that owls represent protection and guidance for a lot of people, when an owl flew right in front of us about 1 foot off of the ground. And landed in a tree in the woodline near our bedroom. We instantly made comments about how weird the timing was. But then it flew back and landed on the ground right in front of where we were sitting on the porch, less than 20 feet away. It then flew up and perched on the pole where I have his grandparents windchime hanging and sat there for several minutes. We spent over an hour taking pictures and talking about how awesome it was, and the owl stayed within 20-30 feet of us, flying down to the ground and the up to a tree branch, before it finally flew off.
I'm not sure if it's purely coincidence or something more spiritual that we experienced, but it has had a huge impact on both of us.
What are your thoughts? Have you ever experienced anything like that?
