"Natural instinct" -an innate, genetically hard-wired behavior or impulse to respond to stimuli without reasoning.
This is something we expect to see out of first timers. I have no desire or the time to work with a doe to get her to do her job. We've been super pleased with every one of our first timers this year. We've found every one of them tucked up under a tree out of the elements being exceptional mothers. Here's afew pics of some of the first timers that will be available in our upcoming online sale May 8th-9th on toplivestock.

💥Hendley Farms Online Dispersal Sale💥

With our kids getting older and finding their own interests, it’s come time to take some things off our plate to spend more time and better support them.
With that said, we’re proud to announce our Hendley Farms Kiko Online Dispersal Sale – May 8 & 9.
After years of building and breeding with purpose, we’re offering up powerful, hard-working genetics to the public. This is a true opportunity to purchase functional, pasture-ready, performance-driven females developed under real-world conditions. These does have been selected for maternal ability, structural correctness, parasite resistance, udder quality, and longevity.
Our goats have been raised on forage-based management without pampering or heavy inputs. Many of these females are proven producers with strong kid crops behind them. Our does are expected to kid out in the pasture and raise kids without intervention.
Whether you’re building a registered herd or strengthening commercial production, this offering includes foundation-quality Kikos ready to go to work.
Live viewing is welcomed and encouraged the week prior to the sale. We plan on attending the NKR Spotlight sale the following weekend providing a convenient delivery option for those interested. Sale will be hosted by Top Livestock. May 8th bidding starts at 6pm EDT & ends May 9th at 6pm EDT.

Wild man went along to check the does this afternoon and found a him a few babies. Kidding season has begun!
Just my opinion, but I believe part of having good maternals is having enough sense to find their selves a good safe place to kid. Shouldn't have to pen them up in a barn or stalls. We've got shelters out in the pasture they can also use but we leave that decision up to them. Most prefer getting under a cedar tree somewhere. I've had some kid out in some nasty weather in an open field and those does get sent to the meat market after weaning.
(He was not happy with me tagging them 😂)

When we first purchased this farm, this particular hillside was covered in weeds, saplings, and blackberry bushes head high. The soil was in poor shape and very thin top soil. I've been working to restore it back to healthy pasture ever since utilizing bale grazing and bale unrolling as part of the process. This helps build the soil, improves fertility, adds seed, and helps retain moisture in dry spells. I've been doing this for about 5 years and saw improvement after the first year but noticed it really make a difference in that seccond year. Many more acres to go but here's a couple pictures of the kind of results we're seeing without any other application of seed, fertilizer, or lime.

Your time is valuable. Wanted to share a video of our set up that is saving us lots of time this winter with the goats. We dont supplement throughout most of the year other than mineral. We do help them out some through the winter and kidding season when there's not enough adequate forage. With this set up, we're able to go quite a few days without worrying about them or messing with grain.

A GOT BRUH WV23 buckling that I brought back home from the 2025 WVU buck test. All of our bucklings this year were either sent to the sale barn or put on tests. I'm trying to get better grading kids at market and more muscling out of these kikos, especially on the rear end. BRUH seems to be moving my herd in that direction based off what I'm seeing and at the market. Earlier this year we sold off most of his bucklings at market. They all graded 1-2 and brought the second highest prices per pound in the sale. Looking forward to also participating in a full-feed university test next year to see his kids' full potential in that area.

Substitution for lot 18 at the Cream of the Crop sale this weekend. Needed a substitute and picked out one of my best doelings. Dam had a perfect bag, feet, and great maternals. She will probably grow out to be a larger doe. Didn't have time to get blood drawn on her and results back before sale time. That being said, I will offer a money back guarantee if tested positive for anything within 2 weeks of purchase.
