Honey was the last girl to accept treats from me. It took about 9 months for her to either figure out how to eat something from my hand or to trust me enough to accept them from me. Either way, she’s a cookie monster now . 😄❤️

T-bone with his new baby half sister, Ellie Walker. 🥰 She was born Sunday afternoon and is Joliet’s first daughter. We were driving by on our way back from church and lunch and saw Chick giving her last push. 😄 It was a super fast and easy delivery and we are so thankful for that. ❤️

One of the cons of calf sharing (letting the mommas raise their calves instead of bottle feeding them) is a lower amount of cream in the milk because those mommas are really good at keeping that for their babies. Scenes like this make my heart warm and the smaller cream line worth it. 🥰❤️

One of the most common questions I get from people interested in trying raw milk is, “how long does it last?” For most people I believe that means, “how long before it tastes bad?”

There are many variables that play into that answer. Some variables (okay, a lot) are on my end: are the cows healthy, do they have adequate minerals and appropriate feed, am I cleaning them well before milking, am I cleaning and sanitizing the equipment, milk chiller, and jars thoroughly, am I replacing milk lines and gaskets in a timely manner?

Other variables are on the consumer side: do you keep it cold on the way home, does it sit out on your counter for any length of time before or after you pour a glass, do people drink out of the jar or use dirty utensils to scoop cream off the top? Any time raw milk is allowed to get above 40*F the lifespan before souring is shortened and you certainly don’t want to introduce your dirty mouth bacteria (no offense) to something so clean and beautiful. So keep it cold and keep it clean! You can still drink it after it sours. Most people (🙋🏼‍♀️) just don’t like the taste.

I am currently drinking milk I bottled on July 23. It has zero hint of sourness. The container was just opened 2 days ago- I haven’t been working on it for a month. 😄 My only “complaint” is that after nearly 4 weeks of sitting the cream is so thick it’s hard to get it all mixed in to the milk so I’ll get “clumps” of sweet cream every now and then. Not much of a reason to complain really. 😂

I don’t know what breed Nadine’s sire is, but I feel like angus is a strong probability. I am far from an expert though....

I’m sorry to say that due to a considerable decrease in egg production (but not feed consumption) the egg sale must come to an end. 😩
All eggs are now the same price, washed or unwashed. $5.00/dozen. Thank you so much for helping us move a lot of eggs the past few months and for your continued support in helping feed all these chickens, especially as they enter their mooching season. 😄❤️
