Popping in here for a quick update on how flowers are doing and our plans moving forward. As the heat and lack of rain continue, it’s looking like our fall flower season is going to be limited. While what we do have is looking okay, I don’t foresee us having the abundance that we normally plan for for the fall.

With that said, we are going to hold off on any more commitments for the time being so that we can be sure to adequately fulfill our current commitments. This includes further CSA subscriptions, workshops, weddings, bulk buckets, etc.

Hopefully, when the weather turns around the dahlias will recover nicely and we will have more to send out so 🤞🏽.

On this same note, we have two large commitments this week so there will be no flower stand flowers for 08/29.

While conditions are still feeling bleak at the farm, we were so glad to get to host a bouquet bar this weekend for this beautiful baby shower. Seeing guests get to enjoy these blooms that we are currently laboring so hard over, was refreshing (as was the AC and getting to be inside 😁.)

Look what the flower field gave us this week. ♥️ As we were harvesting for dried flowers we came across this lovely celosia that felt like a little hug from the earth. I’ll be honest: we needed it.

If you live in Northwest Arkansas, you know it’s been hot. Consistent triple digits temps and a drought. Those in our surrounding communities are being advised to conserve water and while we are on a well, we are starting to conserve as well. We’re prioritizing our fall crops and having to let some summer flowers go sooner than we hoped. The bugs are having a buffet on the flowers as the plants are stressed and there is no rain to help deter the bugs. Transplanting any fall crops and trying to keep them from frying is a challenge, especially when you’re conserving water.

We’re used to managing these conditions for at least a few weeks every year, but the worrisome part now is there seems to be little to no reprieve in the forecast. 😕

So while farming in and of itself is hard, these conditions feel like an uphill battle. Not to mention we just happened to have a million things on the farm that have decided to break at the same time. 🙄

All of that to say, check on your farmers if you can. Send them some Liquid IV because they likely need it 🥵. They’re trying to salvage not only the rest of the season but also their livelihood. Sending love to all of my fellow farmers sweating it out right now! (Literally and figuratively)

Wedding florals dropped off this morning Record for a lovely August wedding. I’ll be honest, I did have a moment earlier this week where I thought “why did I agree to do an August wedding?” because things are getting crispy around here. 🥵 But we got creative and it came together!

If you haven’t heard, we offer wedding florals in a different format than most: à la carte. A menu of our offerings with set pricing so couples can have a lot of independence in building the package that works for them.

So not all are pictured here, but this is what this order included:

-lush bridal bouquet
-statement piece
-3 full garden centerpieces
-10 petite posy
-6 three bottle collections

Notice: no boutonnières which I agree is a great idea!

Delivered and ready for set up by coordinator and team.

More info on how our à la carte wedding program works over on our website. 🤗

Flowers around the house that I kept for myself and why (other than just because I grew them and I can 😉):

-these stunning dinner plate dahlias. 😍 The back petals are a little bug eaten and I only had these three stems so there was really no home for just three “imperfect” stems that aren’t known to have a great vase life. I do like experimenting with dahlias to see how we can get a longer vase life out of them and sometimes the dinner plate varieties surprise me.

-this red brain celosia. I swear it’s like a sensory experience to just run your hand over it. These stems broke off as I was taking a bunch out of a bucket so I just threw them in a bud vase and I think I’ve decided I almost like them better on their own then mixed with other flowers. Also don’t look too hard and that dirty stovetop. We live here.

-lone dahlia. I try to grow large quantities and fewer varieties when it comes to dahlias but I think I only have one plant of this variety. This one bloom was pretty but a bit too short for a mixed bouquet so again, for dahlia research, I kept her. ☺️

Not pictured: a vase of sunflowers that are DUE to be thrown out

The school year is upon us! (I know, I’m not ready 🤦🏽‍♀️.) We’re so thankful for our area teachers and school staff so let’s rally NWA to show them our appreciation. We’re offering these simple but super sweet floral arrangements this week. Perfect for little hands to take to open house or for you to give to a neighbor or friend in education. Two of my besties are stellar teachers!

Preorder over on our website and pickup at your chosen location this Thursday. We’ll also have a few extra available on the flower stands as quantities allow.

Both of my littles are moving up to new schools this year and I’m not okay with it. They are just babies! How are my fellow mommas doing?!

We had a great time hosting a bouquet bar at the sweetest Ladies Mahjong Game Night at Compton Gardens. At check in, guests were given a “flower card” to view the flowers and mark their favorites. While they played mahjong, we made their bouquets and had them ready for when they were finished. This format worked out so well! Keep this setup and us in mind for your next gathering!
