WHY WE DITCHED THE SODA MACHINE IN OUR DIRTY SODA VAN 🥤👎🏻⚙️🚐

This is probably one of our most asked questions. When we went from a small trailer to our last truck, we installed a soda machine in the truck. It was always our dream to have a soda fountain in our truck! We loved it at first, but we eventually learned it came with quite a few challenges.

Don’t get us a wrong. We LOVE a good crispy fountain soda 🤤🤌🏻 But if one little thing is off with the soda machine, you won’t have a crispy soda. After we got a few of our big events under our belts with the soda machine, we realized that it came with a lot more headache than we anticipated. If one little thing was out of whack with the soda machine, it disrupted the product quality. The syrup to carbonation ratio had to be PERFECT. When you’re whipping out 200-500 sodas at a big event with no stopping, sometimes the machine says “nope, I’m done.”

When the machine would stop working at an event, unless my husband was there, it threw a major wrench in things. We always kept a few cans in the truck just in case, but it was a temporary fix. So we thought one day, instead of it being a temporary fix and since we are already having it use cans half the time because the soda machine wouldn’t work, why not just use cans and eliminate the problem?

With cans, the product is consistent. They are readily available at almost any store. Anyone can go get cans, whereas when the soda machine would break, my husband was the only one who knew how to fix it. I couldn’t work on it. My employees couldn’t fix it. We were just stuck in a dirty soda van with a broken soda machine 🙃

So now, we proudly use cans in our dirty soda van and honestly, it’s been SO MUCH easier! If you are in this industry or just love dirty sodas, drop any questions you have below when it comes to soda machines, canned soda, or just dirty sodas in general. We would LOVE to help you 🥤

THE WRAP 🥤🚐🎨✨ The final part of our Chug Van Build Out Series!

The minute we purchased this van we immediately knew we wanted it wrapped! We just think wraps are super professional, we love how clean and put together they look.

After we dropped the van off to get built out, we started researching local wrap businesses and getting idea of what we wanted it to look like. One thing that shocked us about a wrap was the design process. It took us a hot minute to nail down a design that we liked and represented the epitome of Chug’s branding! The bright colors, the swirly lines, the Chug chickens (do we need a story time on this?? We know it’s unusual to see chickens on a soda truck so we can explain that later for you), our logo, all the things 🎨🐓 it took a little longer than expected, but we finally decided on what we think is the perfect design!

We wish we could remember who it was who suggested this, but whoever it was awhile back who recommend to incorporate a selfie spot into the wrap, WE DID IT 🙌🏻 was a beyond brilliant idea!

All in all, we love our wrap and when we saw it in person for the first time, that’s when it really hit us “we actually did this. We actually got our dream van and she’s wrapped!!” We pinch ourselves daily 🥹🩵

Thank you to Wrapology and Signology for making the wrap happen, and thank you to Red Eye Designs for designing the wrap. You both made it come to life and we are beyond thankful for it!

Most importantly, the biggest thank you of all goes to all of you. Our followers, our supporters, our customers, we absolutely without a doubt obviously would not be able to have this van without you. We still remember pulling into our local county fair 4 years ago and thinking “is this going to work? Will people even like dirty sodas?” And here we are. You all have supported Chug since the get go and we owe everything in these last 4 years to you!!

From here on out, keep an eye out for the Chug Van in Northwest Arkansas 🥤

One thing that helps us keep our dirty soda lines moving at events 👇🏻

We’ve been doing this since day 1 without even realizing it. I never thought too much of it until I watched this video while editing it and realized “we are totally getting a head start on drinks due to this one small thing.” It’s something most people don’t even notice, but it’s a game changer.

➡️ When a customer orders, we repeat the order back to them, while also saying it loud enough for the rest of the team to hear.

So while it sounds like we’re just confiming the order for the customer, our drink makers are already starting the drinks before the conversation is even over 👏🏻

Example: “so a small cowboy, small blondie, and a large summer nights?”

Before the payment is even done, the drinks are already being started. And if you have more than 1 person making drinks, it goes even faster!

At busy events, little hacks or systems like this make a HUGE difference in speed, efficiency, & keeping those long lines down 🥤

And before anyone asks, yes sometimes the customer changes their minds 😂 we just repeat the updated order and adjust as we go. It’s still saves us a ton of time overall. Our customers are always saying “wow! That was fast!” So it works pretty good 💯

HOW WE KEEP OUR DIRTY SODA LINES MOVING FAST 🥤🚐💨👏🏻

Our customers are constantly telling us “Wow! That was fast!” When we hand them their drink. We pride ourselves on that and are very proud of it 👏🏻👏🏻

Through a lot of trial and error, crazy busy events that teach us hard lessons, we have nailed down some pretty solid systems for our dirty soda van. These systems help us move as quick and efficiently as possible to keep the line short and moving along. These systems allow us to make 80-100 drinks in an hour!

Everyone’s systems may be different, and that’s okay! You do what works for you!

Quick thoughts to keep in mind:
- Placement of EVERYTHING matters. Make it like an assembly line so everything has a nice, fast flow.
- When making drinks, keep as much as you can within arms reach. That way you aren’t running around wasting time grabbing stuff.
- Assign roles. Who is making drinks, who is working the window, who is handing out drinks, who is doing restocks. That way you aren’t getting in each other’s way and keep things going at a solid pace.
- If you are the person taking customer orders, repeat them back to them to confirm the order, but loud enough for the person making drinks so they can get started on it.
