Something bigger is taking shape. 🤍🎉
When we started Do It Yum, we wanted to create a business where our son, Cole, and other neurodivergent individuals could have a real place in the workforce, not just a place to “participate,” but a place to learn, contribute, grow, lead, and belong.
That vision has grown into something much bigger. We are incredibly excited to announce WorkAbility Alliance, a new nonprofit workforce development initiative created to bridge the gap between learning and meaningful employment for neurodivergent adults and transition-age youth.
And we aren’t creating another classroom. We’re creating real work. Participants will gain hands-on experience in culinary and food service, retail, customer service, inventory, logistics, custodial operations, events, hospitality, administrative work, entrepreneurship, management, and all the little skills that make a workplace actually work. Because there is a huge difference between being taught how to work and being given the opportunity to put those skills into practice.
Our goal is to help participants discover what they’re good at, build confidence through real experience, develop skills employers value, and ultimately walk into an interview with something incredibly powerful: experience.
We’ll partner with schools, nonprofits, service providers, and local businesses to help create a pathway from training to employment. Because meaningful employment is about more than a paycheck. It creates purpose, confidence, relationships, independence, and belonging.
This is a big undertaking. And honestly, it’s a little terrifying. 😂 But what started as a dream for our family is becoming an opportunity we hope can change the trajectory of many families.
We’re building a place where neurodivergent individuals aren’t simply included in the workforce. They’re prepared for it. They’re valued in it. And they have a chance to thrive in it.
Welcome to WorkAbility Alliance. 🤍
We’re just getting started. WorkAbility Alliance Justin Palmer

🎥 Oh, the stories this guy could tell on me, but hey, he survived! 😂 We’ve faced explosions, yes, you read that right… explosions from the ice cream machine. Not once, not twice, but about FIVE times. It’s literally exploded from the front AND the top. I’ve taken the brunt of most of them, but he’s taken one to the face as well! Our little learning curve could make a grown man cry. He didn’t, but I definitely did on an occasion or two. He’s gotten to taste some wild creations and even make some of his own. He’s modeled his hands for me doing countless tasks while I filmed and posted like I was a Hollywood producer. 😂 But it’s the moments I wish I’d had a security camera filming that will stick with me forever: the boredom dance parties trying to make him laugh, the comfort hug because we made it through a huge rush, the guy who came by after a late night and maybe a few too many drinks and gave us so many compliments that we were both blushing until we all burst out laughing, the awesome group of young adults who learned Cole’s name and even asked for him when he had the day off on their repeat visit, Cole & Grady coming up with new recipes and wild videos to post, and the countless smiles and dropped jaws when people saw those swirls for the first time. It’s been amazing, and we’re nowhere near finished! 😆🍦 Justin Palmer

Some partnerships just make sense. And this one feels pretty dang special. 🥰

We’re incredibly excited to be working with Kelly Hays, School Food Transformation Project Lead and founder of Local Love Lunch, as a consultant on what we’re building.

If you don’t know Kelly’s work, you should. Her work with Thaden School’s Meals Program and Local Love Lunch has focused on something we believe deeply in: connecting food, education, community, and opportunity in ways that create lasting change.

Kelly brings a level of expertise that goes far beyond food. Her work centers around helping organizations create healthier, more scratch-cooked food programs, build meaningful educational opportunities, strengthen local partnerships, and turn big ideas into sustainable systems that actually work.

And that is EXACTLY the kind of expertise we want surrounding this project.

We aren’t just building a place to get ice cream. We’re building something much bigger, a place where food, community, education, and meaningful opportunities can intersect.

Having Kelly in our corner to help us think through the vision, challenge our ideas, and build the right foundation from the beginning is a huge win for this project.

We’re super excited about this partnership. And honestly… this is just another glimpse into how much bigger this project is becoming than we ever imagined. 😆

More to come. 👀

R&D MODE: ON 🤩

We’ve got a little smoothie bowl obsession happening over here… 👀 We’re playing with flavors, textures, toppings, colors, and all the little details that turn food into food art.

Because yes… it needs to taste ridiculously good. But we also want that “wait… WHAT is that?!” moment. 😍

We’re quietly cooking up some new things. 🤫 So tell us: what flavors, combinations, or completely unhinged ideas do YOU want to see?

We’re listening. 👀👇

This next chapter is rooted in purpose, fueled by community, and inspired by the people who believed in us from the very beginning.

Behind the scenes, it’s been a whirlwind of meetings with architects, contractors, city officials, inspectors, nonprofit partners, videographers, and so many others who are helping bring this vision to life. Every conversation, every plan, and every decision is moving us one step closer to sharing something we’ve been dreaming about for a long time.

Every visit. Every kind word. Every share. You’ve helped write this story with us. We’re still keeping one big secret… 🤫 Soon, we’ll share where this journey is taking us and why this next step means so much to our family.

Until then, thank you for believing in our vision, cheering us on, and reminding us every day that a small family business can grow into something that makes a lasting impact on its community.

We can’t wait to show you what’s next! justinpalmer.co slscommunity Ability Tree Arkansas Open Avenues

Work hard play hard. 💪🏼😆 That’s how we roll. 4 meetings-2 in person in 2 different towns, 2 zoom in 3 different states + 1 Wynonna concert with mom and sis that takes me straight back to my childhood.

Sometimes growth means making room for a bigger purpose.

When we opened our little trailer at 8th Street Market, we had one simple goal: create incredible swirled soft serve, handcrafted treats, and make people smile. What we didn’t expect was all of you.

Over the past year, we’ve met thousands of amazing people. Customers became regulars. Regulars became friends. You celebrated birthdays with us, brought your families, cheered us on, and helped turn a little trailer into something so much bigger than we ever imagined.

As we’ve grown, we’ve realized something important. Our trailer can only support a small team. While we’re incredibly grateful for everything it’s given us, it simply doesn’t have the space to grow into the vision that’s been placed on our hearts.

We’re moving because we need room to create more opportunities. More room to hire. More room to train. More room to welcome our community. More room to create meaningful employment opportunities for adults with disabilities, including people like our son, Cole.

This next chapter isn’t about leaving Bentonville behind. It’s about staying rooted in Northwest Arkansas while creating a space where more people can gather, connect, celebrate, and be part of something bigger than dessert.

To everyone who’s visited our trailer, shared a post, brought a friend, or simply believed in us…

Thank you.

You’ve helped build this dream one swirl at a time. 🍦 We’ll be asking for your insight and guidance as we expand! Be on the lookout for polls and opinions on how you think it should come together! This mission isn’t about us. It’s about ALL of us coming together FOR each other.

I promise we’re still here! 🫣We’re working as hard as humanly possible to get THIS accomplished. 🍦We’re also setting up a system to get you incredible behind the scenes perspectives as we do this entire thing. Stay with us! We can’t wait for you all to play a part along the way! 🤍
