It was a delight to co-host a field day at Old Homeplace Farm last Friday with CFA member, Maggie Bowling, and our friends at the Kentucky Horticulture Council.
It was an amazing day of learning:
โจ Maggie shared hard earned bits of wisdom from more than a decade of high tunnel production, managing a 75-member CSA, and recovering from major flooding - twice.
โจ Sarah Geurkink from the Organic Association of Kentucky discussed early detection methods for pests and strategies for optimizing soil health.
โจ Kayla Preston with Grow Appalachia talked about high tunnel construction and maintenance as well as strategies for dealing with water - both what is needed for production as well as when there's too much.
โจ Dakota Moore with the Kentucky Horticulture Council reviewed best practices for safe post-harvest handling of produce as we toured Maggie's efficiently arranged and organized pack shed.
Field days are THE best! Stay tuned for information on other field days coming up this summer. ๐
