Community Grains owner Bob Klein has been making this peach pie recipe for his wife for nearly 50 years. Ten years ago, he switched the pie crust a whole grain recipe and now it’s even better.

Click the link in our bio for the crust recipe and read below for how to make the rest of the pie!

Peach Pie (Maggie’s Birthday)
In a double broiler, mix:
-1/4 cup granulated sugar
-1/4 cup light brown sugar
-2 tbsp corn starch
-1 tsp salt
-1 pinch cinnamon
-1 ½ cup sour cream
-1/4 cup honey
-1/8 tsp almond extract
-2 egg yokes (beaten)

Cook- slurring constantly on hot but not boiling water until thick. Cool mixture thoroughly.

Bake pie shell at 400° for 8-10 minutes. Let cool.

Wash, peel, and slice 4-5 cups peaches and mix with custard. Pour into pie shell and top with lattice crust.

Bake at 450° for 15 minutes, then turn to 350° for 20-30 minutes until done.

Top with:
-½ cup sour cream
-2 tbsp brown sugar
-1 pinch cinnamon

Enjoy!!

Amatriciana with whole grain pasta

With just a few ingredients, tomato, guanciale (pancetta or good bacon), pecorino, olive oil, red chili flakes and any of our pastas, gets you a world class dish. We're focused on sauces that are enhanced by whole grain favor, this is dead on.

Traditional Amatriciana is made without onion, but caramelized onion and tomato added to a whole grain base are magic. We used the Bon Appétit recipe for this dish and it was delectable. Just search Bucatini all'Amatriciana on their website to try dish out for yourself!

Community Grains was founded on the knowledge that healthier soil creates healthier plants, which creates healthier humans. The anecdotal evidence and pieces of the puzzle are everywhere, but they’ve needed to be connected.

We’re beyond excited that the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are launching a committee to “review the state of knowledge on linkages between soil health, with particular respect to US agricultural soils, and human health and prepare a report describing the potential to increase the human health benefits from microbial resources in the soil.”

Otto File Polenta is back!

Made from whole milled amber dent corn, this polenta is known for its creaminess and flavor. This corn was originally cultivated by the indigenous people in what’s currently know as the New England region. It was introduced to Italy in the 1800s, where it was further cultivated to be Otto File, the premier polenta variety it is today.

*In an effort to keep things local, we recently switched to a Berkeley-based bakery to bake our bread! While it’s the same delicious bread (recipe was changed slightly to not have sesame seeds due to facility allergen restrictions, but everything else is unchanged), the first batch turned out smaller than expected. While we address the sizing issue and wait for more regularly-sized bread, we’re offering our current inventory at a huge discount! Only $5.99/loaf while supplies last!

If you have a bread subscription, we will be sure to add extra bread to your order to make up for the sizing. Wondering about the bread subscription? See comments below for more info!
