Churrasco pop-up! We’re super stoked to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Novel Brewing Company with a special pop-up on Sunday, June 27. We’ll be serving Chilean-style steak sandwiches, aka churrasco italianos, on our fresh-baked marraqueta bread. And we’ll have a new veggie option: the artichoke italiano! Conoce mi Norte: Part 7! Next stop on our to the is the Salar De Surire. This vast, surreal salt flat is located in the northernmost region of Chile at 4260 meters (13,976 feet) above sea level, with a small portion of its surface area extending across the border into Bolivia. Like the Great Salt Lake and the Dead Sea, it is an endorheic basin, meaning that its waters do not flow to an ocean, but rather equilibrate through evaporation. Its name means “abundance of ostriches” in Aymara.

Conoce mi Norte: Part 6! Our virtual tour of the North of Chile continues. In the heart of the driest desert on Earth, the Atacama Desert, a massive, surreal hand rises from the dirt. The 36-foot tall “La Mano del Desierto” sculpture was created by Chilean artist Mario Irarrazabal and installed in 1992. The sculpture attracts thousands of visitors each year, despite its remote location.

“Conoce mi Norte” Part 5! For this week’s stop on our virtual tour of the North of Chile, we bring you the Laguna Roja. No one knows for sure where the Laguna Roja gets its bright red color. An Aymara legend says that it belongs to the devil and turned blood red when a group of people drank its waters and died on its banks. Others suggest that a red algae or mineral tints its waters. Whatever the cause of the color, most people avoid touching it. (Our water-loving golden retriever, Flow, didn’t get the message, but she was fine.) Nearby are two smaller, but equally mysterious, colored pools: the Laguna Amarilla and the Laguna Verde. All are located at about 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) above sea level.
