I snapped this picture of some bee eggs and very young larvae surrounded by jelly. Later when I was editing it I realized that I caught an egg right as it changes into a larvae! Check out the upper right cell. After 3.5 days the membrane of the bee egg dissolves and reveals a larva. The adult nurse bees then produce a special food sort of like a milk from glands behind their mouth and the young larva floats in a puddle of it, consuming large quantities to fuel its rapid growth.
