Our ladies over the last week hatched out 8 beautiful babies! In our flock of guineas keets two chicks hitched a ride on accident (honest accident this time) with us to we have 10 baby chicks now.

We made some spur of the moment decisions today ans added more guineas and bronze turkeys to the flock.

A sad post from the farm today. Your fluffy friendly greeter has seemed to leave us to pass on peacefully somewhere. His health had been declining lately but having the medevac land out front the other morning was hard on him. He was a great cat and is greatly missed

In addition to my post this week I'll add this. We are currently keeping our old hens and some of our favorites for eggs for the faithful few loyal customers I have. Also keeping the Muscovy ducks for eggs and will sell babies as they hatch them because there's no winning against a broody momma. I'm also not selling the guineas for now I'll continue on with them like I have with eggs and keets in season and readjust if necessary next year.

I did forget to add I have a few Pekin females I will also sell so I can stick strictly to Muscovy moving forward.

So something I've been needing to post for awhile I just haven't been able to figure out exactly what to say. I still don't know what to say exactly but the long and short of it is this, we're pretty much getting out of chickens for good. Maybe one day we'll do it again but for now it's no longer feasible and becoming a burden with raising the young kids.

The cost of every single item has doubled or worse since 2019/20 and somehow at the same time everyone in the local market thinks chickens are now worth a fraction of what they fetched in '19/20. Not only that but with tsc and the likes selling chicks wholesale nonstop the hatching egg market has disappeared and quality chicks are hard to move unless you price at a loss.

So with this I am not reapplying for our commercial selling permit for '24 and 50-75% of the birds we still have are for sale. I've been slowly selling down all summer but now before winter is time to make the big push.

•I have many Bovans(like isa browns) for sale very cheap and the more you buy the better the bargain. Older but laying and they produce a lot of jumbos now.
•I still have a couple Speckled Sussex
•I have a flock of 4 high quality Americana hens and 1 roo. All bearded under 2yrs priced to what market was not 2023 prices
•I have a couple bantams still for sale fairly cheap, I just want them to go to good homes
•Various roosters prices accordingly

French Guinea eggs will now be mixed in with hatching egg orders. And yes we'll be doing keets soon enough

So I've come to the difficult decision of deciding to put up for sale one of our hatching flocks. 6 speckled Sussex hens and 1 black copper Maran rooster. Hens are laying pretty much daily and he's just over a year old, very much in prime. Message to discuss pricing

It's a sad day on the farm, a day I had dreaded may come recently. Something happened to Tom recently that changed his behavior and also caused him to slowly go blind. I had separated him from the flock to monitor him and try to keep his health up. Ultimately this several week effort came quickly to an end the last couple days, where he went from doing ok to failing almost over night. Huge loss to the farm as he was such a vigilant protector of the flock and always so stunning to watch. Will most certainly miss watching him strut around and his gobble
