After 20 years working with dairy cattle, these dexters never cease to amaze me how easy calvers they are! This bull calf was up nursing before the mom even had a chance to get him cleaned off. And 3 hours old in this picture. Dam is Lingle’s Talita 053482 and sire is FF Freedom’s Harvest Moon 040049.

This is “her” cow, a PDCA registered dexter so we let her pick who she would like to ai her to each year! Twice she’s done Adca red dexter bulls and got red bull calves both times. Another time she did gender sorted jersey and ended up with the sweetest belfair heifer calf. This time she wanted to try an Adca dun bull to see if she can get a dun calf(cow is a dun carrier). So we will see if she can get that lucky this time around! 🙂

Welcome to the herd, Violet! She is a purebred Belted Galloway due in August to a smaller belted panda bull. My plan is to ai her to a Highland bull next fall. Looking forward to working with this sweet girl!

I will be placing an order for some bulls from Hoffman AI Breeders here in the next month. If there’s anything special you’d be interested in having your cow or heifer bred to, let me know! Or if you do AI yourself or have someone else do it, I’d be happy to place an order for you as well and split shipping charges if you have your own tank! They have no min or max units you have to order per bull which is nice if you want a variety. Message me if interested!

This goofball of a bull left for his new home yesterday and the family will use him as a herd sire for their Aberdeen heifers as well as their belfair cow they purchased from me a while back! They also bought an ADCA heifer as well to add some Adca registered dexters to their breeding program! Excited to see where they take this new adventure!

Up early to AI breed two of our dexters. I’ve had tons of inquiries about belfair calves and sell out fast with the few I’ve raised so I bred both to a2a2 gender sorted jersey(90% chance of a heifer calf) due to the rising popularity of the cross. Got kids off to school and headed to breed a milk cow for a local family! Time to think about setting those cows up for fall calving, feel free to to message for details if interested in AI!

Kayla(6) has her favorite dexter that she’s put a lot of time into taming down so we always let her choose what she wants her bred to. First time she chose a red dexter bull and got a bull calf(we generally don’t keep bulls past weaning). This past time she chose gender sorted standard jersey bull to try for a heifer calf. She is SO excited about the outcome and it’s fun to watch her see the results of choosing certain genetics! Calf was about 5lbs heavier than our full blooded dexter calves with being sired by a full sized jersey but much more fined b***d than a dexter calf so easy calving nonetheless. However, a gender sorted bull was used so 90% chance of a heifer calf and she was 2nd calf cow…I wouldn’t risk breeding a dexter heifer to standard sized jersey bull in case of the 10% chance she has a bull calf so we keep mini jersey in our tank for that reason.
