Let’s do a crop update and freeze update🍎🍑🍇❄️
And just rip the bandaid off on what we’re expecting this season!

Let’s start with apples🍎🍏
No doubt there’s a lot of damage, a lot of blocks have nothing unfortunately from the frost events this spring. BUT the bright side, we still have apples to pick this fall! We have blocks that came through pretty nice of some varieties and will have your favorites! We have plenty for farmers markets and the stand! So please come see us this fall and get all the apples you need!

Peaches🍑
Everyone’s favorite time of the year! Again a good and bad side. The frosts and winters did there damage just like apples. Same story some blocks have nothing, some have an okay crop. Yes it’s a bummer, BUT again WE WILL OPEN THE STAND! You can still come grab your favorite summer snack for the whole family🍑 be on the lookout as we get towards the end of July for opening day at the home stand!

Grapes🍇
These took the first events the worst. A lot of vineyards have very little to nothing. A couple are somewhat okay and some high areas have a little! They are just starting to bloom so we need to see what will set now!

Every year in this industry is different, you have the good years and the bad, and you roll with it. We thank all of you for supporting us at the retail stand and the farmers markets in Chicago. We thank all of our commercial buyers for understanding the years of low crops and working with us always. And everyone else who helps make our farm work year in and year out!

Still looking forward to a great 2026 season!

So here’s a “tile blowout”, again the old old clay tile laid way back in the day!

When these old clay tiles breakdown under ground they will start to suck in the dirt and create a hole. This one was in the middle of a soybean field so we never even noticed it until now.

Easy fix! We will dig down and put a 4in tube to reconnect the broke section and get the water moving again!

Weekly update🍎🍑🍇

Well everything is starting to grow and we can finally really see what’s starting to set, even though things are still falling off.

Apples and peaches are growing, maybe not as many as we would like but enough for you guys to enjoy fresh fruit this season! We will start to get some counts and get an idea of a crop load!

Grapes you can see the bunches now so we need to start getting some counts to see what may be there!

Starting to become a tradition!

Everytime we trellis a new orchard we seem to find the old clay tile and go right through it!

Which means we have to dig it up like in this picture, and someone (Greg) has to dig around in the water and put a new pipe in to replace where was broke, tape the new ends.

Clay tile was put in LONG LONG ago, and unfortunately there are no maps so the only way we seem to find it is when we accidentally find it!

Always something new everyday!
