𝐓𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬— 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 “𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠” 𝐎𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤?

𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨-
We are starting to get to a critical point in herbicide spraying where we’re pushing maturity for application timing in small grains. Different herbicides may have a negative impact on your crop’s health if not sprayed at the proper plant maturity. This applies to both early and later applied herbicides for small grains.

𝘾𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙖-
Canola has been pushing fast the last few weeks and we’re seeing a few fields starting to bolt. Your spray window for Liberty Link canola is from the first true leaf to bolting. TruFlex canola is from first true leaf to first flower.

𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙭-
Flax has a tight window and ideally should be sprayed between 6-8 inches tall.

𝙎𝙤𝙮𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙨-
Soybeans have been coming slow but steady. It is not uncommon to make a herbicide pass a couple times a year. Thankfully, we have up to R1 to keep the soybeans clean.

𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐩 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐉𝐨𝐞

𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨-
In-crop spraying is in full swing. Things overall are looking nicely. Two things to note:
1. With the wind we have had and continue to get, the plants have been through a lot. Getting moisture plus wind damage to the foliage makes it a great candidate for leaf diseases.
2. If you’re thinking about side dressing, now is the time! When you think about timing for adding extra nitrogen onto your crop, think about it as the same timing as crop spraying. Wheat determines the size of the head at 5-6 leaf. If you’re seeing deficiencies or looking to add bushels, now is the time to address those.

𝙎𝙤𝙮𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙨-
If you weren’t able to roll your soybeans or chose not roll them before they emerged, remember a few key things:
1. Heat and sun are key and will make those plants more pliable.
2. Make sure to spray your early post application before rolling if you didn’t get a burndown done. This way, the w**ds aren’t full of dirt, and you’ll get the most out of this pass.
3. I like to see soybeans rolled when they have that first trifoliate just unfolding.

𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙣-
With the heat and moisture, the corn has really taken off. We have many options to choose from for a corn herbicide program that not only provide great post emergent control, but also provide residual for those upcoming flushes of w**ds.

𝐓𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬— 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 “𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠” 𝐎𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤?

We have gone through just about every extreme weather event possible within the last few months.

We had days that got into the 70s in March, then freezing temps from April to May. On May 14th, we witnessed one of the worst dust storms we hope to see only once in our lifetime, only to be followed by much needed rain a couple days after. Then came the heat and thunderstorms to start off June.

In the coming week, it looks like there will be cooler weather and chances of rain and thunderstorms almost everyday. It is important to consider the risks that come with these conditions.

Post Emergence Application season is here.

With post application season starting, 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Most of us started planting when soil temperatures were cold, so planting dates can be deceptive. The later planted crops went into warmer soils and caught up quickly.

Post emerge applications are knocking on our door. The wind has been a pain but the heat and the moisture has been a blessing.

Overall, we are seeing fantastic crop emergence, however the w**ds are loving it just as much as the crops. Spraying windows are short and we need to eliminate the w**d pressure early. It will be important to pick up your pesticide needs soon to optimize your application window.

✌🏼things:

1. Wind happens. With the high wind and rain events, now is the time to assess your plant stands. Don’t push the panic button quite yet, in the pictures you can see both canola and wheat that wind had blown either dirt or a mat of corn residue in areas. Both areas there is crop that is coming, and will be ok. It will be a bit thinner, but in both instances the stand doesn’t warrant reseeding.

2. A note for canola growers- we didn’t have much w**d pressure when canola was seeded, but with the last shot of rain, w**ds are emerging right with the canola. An early post application of Liberty and graminicide can keep fields w**d free. This is also a great time to include an insecticide to manage the flea beetles and ensure your canola gets off to a great start.
