A big hello to our loyal customers! We are beyond thrilled to announce that WE ARE BACK! It goes without saying 2020 was a hard year for all of us. As many of you know in April of 2020 our sole processor suffered a catastrophic fire, leaving them unoperational. We lost 5 cows in that fire and all of our future processing dates. Adam scrambled looking for other alternatives.
Then in October Adam's wife, Ally, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She underwent a successful 10.5 hour brain surgery in December.
All of Adam's calling did secure us processing dates that are happening now! Ally is getting stronger and with the help of her mom is able to begin delivering Berthoud meat to your door again!
Just as we are regaining our footing Prop 16 threatens to put us under for good. The average processing age for cows is 18 months for grain finished and 24 months for grass fed. Among other things, this proposition will mandate cattle reach a minimum of 5 years of age before they are processed. This exacerbates the resources (land, water, feed, labor and time) needed for farmers to produce local meat to their communities. The impacts to consumers, like you, seeking a local product would come at a much greater cost and arguably inferior product.
