We have to thank so many people who called, text and come to the ranch to help us in the past few days! We have a whole crew of great friends that came out to help with some tree work. We have found one cow so far that we have found that was taken by the storm damage. There are a few more largely impacted areas that we have to move before we can find out our total losses. With the amount of very large downed trees, it’s a real blessing we don’t have more injured or gone.

President Trump’s announcement today is a frustrating step in the wrong direction for American cattle producers.

According to a truth social post the U.S. will allow an additional 300,000 metric tons, approximately 661 million pounds, of imported ground beef into the country over the next 90 days without out-of-quota tariffs, with the stated intent of selling it 25% below current market prices.

That comes at a particularly difficult time for Arkansas cattle producers. Drought, higher input costs and historically low U.S. cattle inventories are already complicating decisions about retaining heifers and rebuilding the cow herd. Many Arkansas producers are also preparing to market calves right now.

We know import policy can move cattle markets quickly. Following the October 2025 announcement aimed at lowering beef prices through increased imports, Arkansas steer calf prices fell $41/cwt in just two weeks. Today, feeder cattle futures are already reacting.

American cattle producers have weathered years of challenges while continuing to supply consumers with high-quality beef. Creating additional downward pressure on cattle prices may provide a short-term response to high beef prices, but it does nothing to address the underlying problem of historically low cattle inventories. It could also make producers more hesitant to invest in rebuilding those inventories.

If the goal is a stronger American beef supply, producers need the market confidence to build it. You don’t grow the American beef supply by making it harder to raise American beef.

Minnie really hit the jackpot today! When a cow is loaded in a trailer, it’s usually off to the meat locker if you don’t haul to grazing. She stepped in the trailer, and ended up the main attraction at our farmyard petting zoo! She’s been out ranging for months, so she couldn’t believe her eyes when the kids were bringing her treat after treat! She brought her calf along for some socializing and they had a great time!

U.S. CATTLE REPORT 🏆 30,000 pounds of beef from Argentina recalled

According to USA TODAY, nearly 30,000 pounds of raw beef imported from Argentina have been recalled after federal officials determined the products did not receive a required import inspection. Corte Argentino USA LLC recalled approximately 29,628 pounds of beef that was distributed in Florida and Texas, according to the report.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall on August 11, 2026, and classified it as a Class I recall, the agency’s highest health-risk category. The affected beef was produced between May 15 and May 20, 2026, with use-or-freeze-by dates ranging from September 15 through September 20, 2026. Products include several cuts of raw beef, including Top Sirloin Butt, Eye Round, Topside Cap Off, Flat and Knuckle, packaged in boxes bearing the Argentinian establishment number EST. N° OF. 2025 and shipping mark 26644-AA.
