"Take half, leave half" land management strategies

To maintain healthy livestock forage, aim to leave ~50% of forage produced – 25% consumed by livestock, 25% lost by trampling, wildlife, soil etc. Residual forage supports plant health, soil cover and recovery.

When 50% or more of leaf volume is removed, root growth is affected. At 50% removed, 2-4% of growth is stopped, increasing to 100% of growth stopping at 80% + removed.

Monitoring rainfall & forage conditions can aid in grazing management.

Jamie is the calf whisperer. When we are out tagging new calves, she can sidle up to almost every one without stressing them or momma. Though, right after she caught this one, the calf bawled for momma and 5 cows answered the call- at a gallop 🤣

Piles of babies!! We had a cold night and they are soaking up the warm sun this morning. It’s been a wild couple of weeks to go from over 100 degrees in the day to 40’s overnight. They all look great
