Our Story
Even when he was traveling for business, Ed Leonardi always took along books and magazines about agriculture and farming, dreaming about leaving corporate life and becoming a farmer himself on some land he had bought for a weekend place in Sullivan County, NY.
Wildcraft Farms started out officially in 2003 with some egg layers, with a poultry and beef operation following soon behind. Ed sold his beef and poultry at the NYC Greenmarkets until 2013 when he had the opportunity to sell out and get started with a crop he had always wanted to grow, POPCORN.
Ed had tried to grow popcorn twice before and failed. This time he thought he knew where he had gone wrong and worked on his fields to make sure the soil was in good condition and that the drainage was right. It seems that the third time was the charm because we are now able to bring you the delicious popcorn he grows at Wildcraft Farms. It is available at the GrowNYC Greenmarket at Union Square on Monday, Friday, and Saturday year-round.
