When two missions align ✌
Spotlighting our recent loan to , an residency program in New York state that since 2018 has created safe spaces for Black and ***r artists to spend time in , rest, and restore. Now, they're launching a working to and sustain artist residents.
Founder Kamra Abdul-Hakim founded Activation Residency in response to the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent social movement in 2020, which compelled them to think deeply about what a future looks like for Black and q***r people, as well as others living on the margins.
In 2022, Kamra successfully crowdsourced funding to purchase eight acres of land. Through mentorship and business development support through , , and , Kamra has developed a strong plan for a market garden, field kitchen, bar, grocer, spa, and farm stay - all run on passive and low-tech water and energy systems.
We're so proud to have supported Activation Residency this August with a 0% interest loan to kick start the food program, including quite literally paving the way with much-needed work to their driveway. Onwards!
