𝗗𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝟰𝟬 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗴𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 – 10 Fascinating Shorthorn Facts from the 1986 NWSS...

1. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝘁 – First Place Get of Sire by Ayatollah posted a combined weight of 10,000 pounds:
• Glenford Ayatollah 2nd – 2,560 lbs
• Lefty 83rd – 2,700 lbs
• Ringmaster – 2,660 lbs
• Alexander S3 – 2,080 lbs
The second and third-place Gets were also sired by Ayatollah.

2. The Champion Bull (𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗔𝘆𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵 𝟮𝗻𝗱), Reserve Champion Bull (𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝟯), and Reserve Champion Female (𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲’𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘀) were all sired by Ayatollah.
The Champion Female (𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘆𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝟴𝟰𝟭𝟵) was sired by Sangamon Irish Plumber and was the first calf of the matriarch of today’s “Myrtle Bo” cow family.

3. A Shorthorn steer sired by 𝗪.𝗢. 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝟯𝗝 was crowned Grand Champion of the National Western for the first time in 35 years.
Prior wins: 1906, 1910, 1927, and 1951.
The steer weighed 1,263 lbs, stood 55” tall, and sold for $9,100 to the Denver Holiday Inn.

4. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄, TNT Clancy 14T, was from Canada and placed 4th in her class in the Open Show!

5. The Grand Champion Pen of Five Bulls went to 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗝. 𝗛𝗼𝘆𝘁 & 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝘀 — fall bulls averaging 1,279 lbs and 54.5” at the hip.
Reserve Champion Pen of Five: 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀.
Champion Pen of Three: Mantua Farms.
Reserve Pen of Three: Hoyt.

6. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 $𝟱,𝟴𝟳𝟵 on 20⅔ lots.
• CC Cujo topped the sale at $27,000 to J&H Land Company
• GR Old Hickory followed at $15,000 to M&H Cattle Co., Haywood Shorthorns, and Cagwin Farms

7. The show was judged by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗛𝗮𝘄𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀 of Michigan, assisted by 𝗥𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗰𝗵 of Texas.

8. The show featured 𝟲𝟲 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟴𝟰 𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀.

9. 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝘇 was named Herdsman of the Year, and 𝗟𝘆𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝗰𝗚𝗶𝗹𝗹 was named Outstanding Junior Member.
