Happy National Farmer’s Day! Supporting small and local farmers isn’t only for the food on our plates, but also for our neighborhoods and economies. That’s why I’m thrilled to partner again with and to announce the second edition of The Good Farmer Award US - that gives $10,000 to new and beginning farmers implementing regenerative organic farming, plus a trip to their European Regenerative Organic Center in Parma, Italy!
💡 Did you know? Small farms generate nearly 50% MORE local economic value than large farms! Why? Because they support local businesses, pay living wages, and source supplies locally - meaning every dollar you spend has a 50% higher impact than if you spent it elsewhere.
🧑🌾 One study found that for every $1 of sales, direct-market farms generate twice as much local economic activity as farms not selling directly to consumers. And get this: $1 million in revenue from direct-market farms creates nearly 32 local jobs, compared to just 10 jobs for larger wholesale growers!
🗺️ In my area, over 70% of farmers market visitors spend at other local businesses, adding up to more than $26,000 per week circulating in the community!
