continues, and as a small farm committed to serving our local community, it’s awesome to see the love and support we get. CSA share revenue is crucial to helping us with labor and seed costs early in the year when we’re still months from the first harvest. Our goal every season is to ensure that the support and trust we get from that investment is repaid in delicious produce during the summer.

Our celebration of continues and the work continues as well. On a farm, you have to take advantage of good weather when you can, and todays warm weather was good to get some direct seeding done. Small farms like ours are powered by people, and we can’t do what we do without the support of awesome folks in our community. From us to you, thank you!

They say variety is the spice of life, and at Sun One Organic we have a LOT of variety. On the tomato front this season we’re growing 7 varieties of Cherry Tomatoes and 8 varieties of larger tomatoes. Every season we up our game to grow the best for our CSA members. Early signs-ups are open, but space is limited!

Always exciting getting seeds started early in the season, feels like the first taste of spring! Won’t be long before greenhouse is full of plant starts.

Another new variety we’re trying this year on the farm is the Chocolate Cherry Tomato. Characterized by an almost smokey, complex flavor, it’s also pretty to look at. We’ve grown a similar variety in the past but we thought we’d try something new to see if it’s even yummier!

Continuing a peek at some of the varieties we’re trying out on the farm this year, I present the Fairy Tale Eggplant. A miniature eggplant variety that’s smaller, sweeter, and creamier than other varieties. Many cooks don’t even bother salting them prior to cooking as they aren’t as bitter as other eggplants.

Highlighting one of the new varieties we’re trialing this year at Sun One Organic: Arava is a melon that’s a cross between a honeydew and cantaloupe. Sweet, green tinged flesh with netted skin that turns yellow when ripe. Looking forward to that first taste test in Summer!

Back from Winter break and excited to get our hands back in the dirt! But first, it’s seed catalog time. Always fun, but a bit overwhelming since there’s so many cool looking varieties. Looking forward to spring!
