"Why do you use soy wax and what's the difference between soy and paraffin?" I was asked this question a few times yesterday at the local Farmer's Market and I figured this would make a good post just on the off chance others were curious.... I use soy wax because it is non-toxic, cleaner-burning, and biodegradable. Have you ever seen a house that when you remove a picture from the wall there is an outline? Even if the person is a non-smoker? Yeah, that's black soot that is produced from certain types of candles. Paraffin wax especially, it is the product of the oil purification process from petroleum, coal, or oil shale..... that waxy substance from crude oil = paraffin wax....that is why it is so much cheaper than soy ....Soy wax is vegetable-based (soybeans) and does not produce this black soot, nor does it have chemicals, pollutants or potential carcinogens so you are less likely to have triggered allergies. It is 100% safe to burn in a home with small animals. Did you know that most store bought candles are harmful to our animals? especially if you have birds! *insert paraffin wax here* If it's harmful to them, it's also harmful to us and most store bought candles are paraffin wax. Lastly, soy wax has a lower melting point, so it burns slower, which in turn holds the scent longer making your candles and warmer melts last much, much longer. The fragrance oils I use are also 100% natural, food-grade quality oils. So it's a win, win! :)
