The first batch of satellite Halter collars are charging up for the replacement heifers on Monday. We've been using the previous style connected to towers for the sale heifers and embryo transfer cows in order to have more targeted intensive grazing. It's been a really cool thing to learn and watch. We are excited for what is to come!

A smoky July day putting up small squares today. We had a late start to haying season this year but we are rocking right along now! We use bale trucks for the big bales but the small squares that fill our calving and horse barns still get picked by hand šŸ˜ a crew full of comedians sure makes a long afternoon fly by.

Last year we tried an e-collar program called Vence for the heifers we were going to sell. It was so interesting to see how they utilized the pastures with their set parameters and really nice to see the location when one was outside of the perimeter. This year we switched to using Halter brand. The sale heifer group got outfitted with their snazzy new collars on Thursday. Our embryo transfer cows will be outfitted with their collars here shortly!

Sometimes the best lessons come from owning our mistakes. On Monday, some net wrap was placed in the dump before it was fully extinguished, which unfortunately led to a fire.

Weā€™re incredibly grateful for the quick response from the Big Sandy Fire Department, who acted fast to get the situation under control. A big thank you as well to Gregg Ramsey with Diamondback Excavating for helping cover the old dump afterward to make sure everything was fully contained and to the Mint for providing meals on short notice to our help!

We appreciate the hard work and dedication of our local fire department and neighbors who step up when it matters most. Hereā€™s hoping the moisture in the forecast shows up soon!

The first calf heifers are well under way as we approach the due date with nearly 100 calves on the ground. We are blessed to be able to preform most of our veterinary care in house. Pictured is a couple of this years crew pulling a calf, Shane Rigby suturing an open umbilical hernia and wrapping up the first c section we've had this year.
