Ahhhhh projects. Feels weirdly good to get back to doing things around the farm. Took a break this spring/summer and didnt touch a single tool or piece of wood. Been going hard at it for 5+years now and I just needed that time off. Not just for my body but for my mind as well. To help me better understand and focus what i want to do moving forward when it comes to breeding/conservation in aviculture. Where i can make my impact. And that time off helped me do that. So its out with the old and in with the new so to speak. Getting away from the things that are common and well established in aviculture to make room for those species that need some help. So with the weather cooling off i got to work. Grey jungle fowl winter pen done. As well as the pens for the new additions to the farm Grey Francolin from Mr.Klan himself. And a few more to be built for the other late additions to the farm. Thanks Jon Mcknight for pressuring me to get to work with all your latest build photos πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Man what a wild ride this year has been. From wild highs and even more wild lows its been one to remember. The overwhelming thing im taking from this year is expectations. I know we all do it before breeding starts. We set these goals for ourselves and our birds. Some are easily achieved while others arent. And thats where this becomes demoralizing for me at least. Hoping to hatch a crap ton of this and that but ending up with issues. The biggest take away from it all is understanding that while expectations are great not meeting them isnt the end of the world and doesnt make you your birds or this year a failure. Its a learning experience everytime. In the end i hatched more of some species than i have in the past 2-3 years combined and still ended up with success on certain things just not in the large numbers I had hoped for. Either way its why we all love and do this. The constant challenges and learning keeps us growing and becoming better keepers.

Man I tell ya birds can be your best friends and your worst enemies all in the same day. This year has been quite the interesting one. The highs and the lows come with every year. One thing ive taken notice to is how well chicks are doing since I implemented just 1 of the additives of Mr. Pfarrs complete feed recipe. Since just adding the small bird fruit blend pellets i have noticed chicks are not only more lively but also thriving. So I bit the bullet and decided to go with the full recipe from here on out for the rest of the year. With plans to implement the adult feed recipe by January 2027. While it may be more costly. The birds will benefit from it and thats what this is all about.
