When we say, 'single varietal honey' what does that actually mean? Most grocery store honey is a blend from unknown sources. It's mixed on the wholesale market and it's hard to say where exactly it came from or what flowers were pollinated.

We work with farms like Doe Orchards to pollinate fruits like blueberries and the result is a honey that takes on the blueberry flavor. We know the farm and the field it came from. Of course, the bees pollinate other flowers during the process, but primarily the blueberry bushes.

Brothers Wes and Glenn manage the care and transportation of over 35,000 bee colonies for pollination across the U.S. through our sister business The B Farm.

1 out of every 3 bites of food you eat exists because of a pollinator.

Most of the raw honey we make is the byproduct of pollinating fruits and nuts for farmers across the U.S.

Each year, we travel to their farms with our bees during the precious window of time (sometimes only a few short days) when pollination of the flowers must happen for crops like apples, blueberries, cranberries, and almonds. In New England, we've been doing this with some farms for over fifty years.

For over fifty years, the Card and Doe families have been meeting at Doe Orchards in Harvard, MA, to unload bees for pollination.

It used to be done by hand, hauling hives off the trucks and placing them throughout the apple orchards and blueberry fields. Now, machinery makes the job faster, and Glenn Card and Larry Doe remember what it was like to grow both of their businesses over the years.

Doe Orchards is just one stop on the tour our 35,000 hives will take across New England to pollinate crops.

Before you pick apples or blueberries, thousands of bees had to do their job.

During National Pollinator Week, we have extra gratitude for the bees and the farmers who help feed them.

There's some advice you'll always carry with you.

Andy's dad sat him down as a kid and passed on the words he'd come to live by: take care of your bees, and your bees will take care of you.
Four generations later? Those words still hold.

Happy Father's Day.

Strawberry rhubarb season is short. Make it count. πŸ“

Raw Knotweed honey brings a deep, earthy, caramelly sweetness to this strawberry rhubarb crisp that white sugar just can't touch. If you don't have knotweed honey on hand, any raw honey will work just fine.

Meet the queen guys. πŸ‘‘πŸ

Danny, Leysser, and Carlos lead the queen production team in Louisiana for our sister business The B Farm. They’ve mastered the process of creating queens and harvesting hundreds of them every single day so they can be mailed across the U.S. to beekeepers who need them.

The skills they’ve learned over many years are absolutely critical to our mission of raising healthy bees so beekeepers can make high-quality honey. πŸ™

People ask why we farm in Louisiana. Here's the short answer. 🐝

Louisiana has some of the most diverse, nutritious pollen available, and it's accessible to bees for an extended stretch of time in the early season. That means our colonies build up faster, come out of spring healthier, and are stronger producers for the rest of the year.

It's not where we started. The Card family began in Massachusetts in the 1950s. But when southern beekeepers started trucking colonies north for New England pollination with a two-month head start, we followed the season south. Louisiana has been part of our operation ever since.

Every queen starts as the same tiny egg as every other bee in the hive.
What makes her different isn't genetics, it's what she gets fed.

Our team hand-selects three-day-old larvae from our best queens, moves them one by one into special cups, and lets the bees do the rest. The bees recognize what's been placed there and start feeding those chosen larvae royal jelly. It's the only thing that turns an ordinary bee into a queen.

We ship queens twice a week to beekeepers across 48 states through our sister business The B Farm - Merrimack Valley Apiaries.
